thanks. I had seen omxplayer but thought that it was experimental. the pi plays composite video to a large screen tv that looks great. when I play form the SD card control-c works well to stop the player. when I play from a samba mount across the network then the cpu maxes out and it is a bit tough ...

Guys,
there are a lot of topics on video but in the end I am not sure....

Am I able to play avi or other video formats on the pi?

if yes, which player should I use and where can I get it?

absolutely right... it was jython. I tend to use the names interchangeably which is perhaps not very right.

At the moment I am doing most of my pi experiments using an rdp session as it save setting up another keyboard/mouse/monitor... I can rdp to the pi. can samba back to my pc drives so all the basics are working. I have found something, which to me, is a bit strange. If I login with a keybaord connect...

Guys,
I have written quite a bit of python linux and windows and have used the swing library.

is this already on the pi standard image somewhere or do I need to get it from somewhere?

Alternatively is there something similar that is better suited to the pi?

These are the connectors I used http://www.modtronix.com/index.....63_164_169.

they are tiny which was good for me as I had 64 connection points and on a proto board the 2.54mm pitch aligned with the device pin outs.

I read somewhere that the GPIO pins when set to input include a pull-up resistor. this would mean that all you need is a switch to ground.

someone more expert would be able to confirm the pull-up status.

yes it was 450M to look at the desktop and about 50M more to open libreOffice word.

as mentioned this was on a 4G machine.

what do you think makes firefox and libreoffice NOK?

Guys,

From their website I see that libreOffice requires 256MB of Ram with 512 recommended under Linux.

Will we really be able to run libreOffice under fedoraPi?

has anyone actually done it?
