Re: Using Twython to upload video to Twitter

Just in case this was the problem, Twython video uploads must be less than 30 seconds. Again, that may not be the issue here, but it would cause the error message you received.

Re: What hardware issue could be causing my Pi to no longer

Gotcha, my LED doesn't blink at all. Just solid green.

I'll take a close look and see if anything looks funny. Hoping I can coax a little more life out of this guy.

Re: What hardware issue could be causing my Pi to no longer

Hi David, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I went through the sticky and did the test with an identical Pi. If I replace my Pi with another of the same model, it will boot. I noticed that the sticky mentioned a bent pin as a potential issue; is there a way to test whether this is the problem and / or fix ...

What hardware issue could be causing my Pi to no longer boot

Hi all, Quick question. I had a Pi that was working fine and then one day, it had shut off; when I tried to reboot, I couldn't get anything. I suspected the SD card had been corrupted, so I switched a new SD card into the Pi to see if I could get anything. Nothing happened. I checked the original SD...

Re: Current best package for connecting to SQL Server?

Thanks for the suggestion. For others struggling with this, I ended up getting pyodbc to work. Took some wrangling, but I eventually got it.

Key for me was specifying the TDS_version in my connection string.

Current best package for connecting to SQL Server?

I have a Sql server database that I'm trying to connect to via Python on the Pi ( running newest Jessie 1.8 ). I know there are a range of approaches like Freetds and pypyodbc to name a few. But it's difficult to google some of this because articles and tutorials are often not dated and I know suppo...

Re: OpenCV is sweet

Absolutely. The fun of this is the journey and the achievement of creating something from nothing. Using libraries does take the fun out of it to some extent. Building from scratch vs putting puzzles pieces together I suppose. But at the end of the day, to make something useful, you need to use the ...

OpenCV is sweet

I'll admit, I have a bad habit of coding new ideas in the least efficient way: from scratch. Sometimes, it's ok, but I often find that there is an existing community or library that does the same thing, faster, more efficiently, and with more functionality. Case in point, OpenCV. I wrote a bash scri...

Can I ask for a quick explanation about why this worked? Does changing wheezy to jessie have any downstream impacts?

Re: Best age for Pi

Are there any libraries or tools for the Pi that can auto-limit the amount of time kids spend on it? Feels like a script would be able to manage this pretty easily. But if there are tools out there already, might as well use them. Part of me wishes I'd be gifted the 90's version of a Pi back then. B...

I love the quote about sufficiently advanced technology being indistinguishable from magic.

Great to hear your success story with this. I'll have to see if I can get him to start playing around w/ Minecraft once we open this thing up.

Re: Is it crazy to start a business enabled by raspberry PI

That is fantastic Liz. And your point makes a ton of sense. That does give me comfort in continuing down this path. And eventually, I'd love to be able to have some of this stuff double as a way to get some local kids involved with PIs, so the dual-purpose is fantastic.

Not surprising. Once you find a cool project, you want it to run on its own. Enter the power consumption question.

Re: Is it crazy to start a business enabled by raspberry PI

Thanks for sharing. That is helpful. I agree that having it toast bread would be fantastic. Will be interesting to see what they come out with next. I hope it doesn't have too many bells and whistles to be honest. I need a sensor that works in decent to good light and has clear colors, that's about ...

Re: Can a 3.7v lithium ion battery power a Pi?

It's been a few months since I posted this originally, so I wanted to share some findings. Starter note: all the components I'm referring to were purchased from AdaFruit, I'm happy to share links if anyone is interested. So a 3.7V battery by itself cannot power the Pi, but if you add a boost convert...

Re: Is it crazy to start a business enabled by raspberry PI

Having read between the lines of what has been said on this forum I have the feeling that there might be a new one not long off an announcement. I didn't realize this. Your points on supply of components is a very good one. On the camera, are you suggesting that they are going to have a new camera ...

And now, I admit I'm a terrible computer science grad for not knowing this, but what is Minecraft? And how do kids interact with it programmatically?

Re: Best age for Pi

I'm in the same boat. My nephew is 10 years old and last Christmas, he got a kids electronic circuits set. He got super into it and now I'm thinking that he would enjoy tinkering in the software world on a PI. Not sure what the best resources or tutorials are? Do 10 years olds even respond to tutori...

Re: Is it crazy to start a business enabled by raspberry PI

Sorry, should have been more clear. Prototype is mostly functional (almost). I want to get the prototype working before seriously thinking about business case. To be honest, this is more of a fun-thing-to-build, but as it gets farther along, the thought of quitting consulting to pursue it full time ...

Re: Is it crazy to start a business enabled by raspberry PI

You are right. From a business plan perspective, it's less about the technology choice and more about the fundamentals. I guess my question was more about the choice of Pi + Pi Cam as the technology foundation. If the general process is as follows, are there alternative technology platforms I should...

Is it crazy to start a business enabled by raspberry PI

I have an idea that uses PIs and PiCams, but I also have a tendency to latch on to the first technology that I come across instead of finding the best solution. Is it crazy to try and create a business that sells services that are enabled by computer vision + Raspberry Pi?

Re: Can a 3.7v lithium ion battery power a Pi?

Got it. Step up converter. Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the link.

Secondary question. What kind of amperage does a model B draw?Assuming 70% available capacity on the lithium ion battery, that gives me about 1500 mAh. So two hours means that the pi with no peripherals draws 750mAh?

Can a 3.7v lithium ion battery power a Pi?

I suspect this question has been answered, but I couldn't find it anywhere. If you need to direct my to the right thread, feel free. I recently bought a solar charger set up for a 3.7v lithium ion battery. (Lithium Ion Cylindrical Battery - 3.7v 2200mAh PID: 1781 $9.95 1 $9.95) I have read that the ...
