ENC28J60 fixed MAC with CPU ID

I'm using Pi Zero's with a ENC28J60. It's know that this causes random MAC addresses, and there's a couple of fixes. I rather wouldn't use #!/bin/bash raspberry="B8:27:EB:" cpuid=$(cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep Serial | cut -c 21-26 | sed 's/\(..\)/\1:/g') ifconfig eth0 hw ether $raspberry$cpuid If I'm c...

Re: ENC28J60: OS freezes

Success! Did this fix: https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/1385
Compiled a new kernel with the latest development version.

Now it's running strong. The latency is a bit high, but that's typical ENC28J60 behavior I believe.

Re: ENC28J60: OS freezes

Unfortunately it's not very hard to reproduce here. The best way to get it is doing a speedtest with speedtest-cli.

Then after 2 ~ 4 attempts it crashes, this always happens when it's uploading, never with downloading.

Compiling your own kernel sounds easier than it is :) No success so far, but we'll keep trying.

Re: ENC28J60: OS freezes

I run it with one ENC28J60, well... there's two on the PCB but I use only one for now. It has it's own 3V3 (separate) power supply, so that should do... I will look into the code with my colleague. Thanks for your help!

Re: RPi3 'freezes' when enabeling WiFi

Do you have an error log? Maybe if you run it with the console you'll get some info.
My Zero crashes with ethernet (ENC28J60).

Re: ENC28J60: OS freezes

Got a message log when running in the console. Kernel oops
It all looks like gibberish to me, apart from that it has to do with the ENC28J60. Is there someone who sees some useful info?

Re: ENC28J60: OS freezes

Hi Karrika,

No :) There's two ENC's under the Pi. Talking about debugging, do you know if there's a log somewhere that could give me some more information on what could have gone wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Re: ENC28J60: OS freezes

It's all on one (self designed) PCB. Pretty short lines. But the weird thing is that the whole OS hangs. Even if the SPI communication would fail, it would seem strange to me if that makes the whole OS hang :? Two ENC28J60 IC's are under the Pi: https://www.instagram.com/p/BDnP4ufrWwg/?taken-by=simi...

ENC28J60: OS freezes

I have a Raspberry Pi Zero, attached to a ENC28J60. Most of the times it runs fine, but when I run a internet speed test time for a few times (console: speedtest-cli) or when I do a check-out on SVN, sometimes the whole OS just freezes. It doesn't come back. I have a heartbeat LED running, that stop...

Bummer. It still seems to drop once in a while, spontaneously. Anyone an idea or had something similar?
The Pi keeps running, it's just the SPI or ethernet part that quits.

Re: ENC28J60 on Pi drops connection on high load

I think I've got it figured out, it's a 'doh!' thing. The ENC28J60 draws at least 120mA, when checking out SVN it increases even more (not that much though). In my own PCB setup there were two ENC28J60's and a uC powered by one Zero. I attached a power supply to it, cutting off the 3v3 from the Zero...

ENC28J60 on Pi drops connection on high load

I'm using a ENC28J60 connected to a Zero, works fine in general. But when I start a SVN checkout (1.7GB), the connection drops after a few minutes (using Putty). I've tried this with a self made board with a ENC28J60 on it, and with a ENC28J60 on a breakout board, both loose connection after a few m...

Re: Gert's VGA add-on for the B+

I was wondering if it would be possible to have the VGA output and the composite signal as separate outputs. It states everywhere that you can build a dual monitor setup with VGA and HDMI, but how about the composite output? Is this a copy of the HDMI signal?

RPi Compute as USB slave

I know it isn't possible to use the RPi A/B as a USB slave, but I am hoping this might be different with the Compute. We're building hardware based on the compute, which communicates trough a LAN9512-JZX. But if it's possible, due to the complexity of using the LAN9512-JZX, we'd rather use the RPi C...

Re: I2C GPIO

Thanks for the schedule, that's very helpful. I am designing a new board for the Compute, so I am not using the normal headers, only the pin-out of the SO-DIMM module. I've picked GPIO 2 and 3, so SDA and SCL 1.

Thanks everybody!
