I think what you're trying to do is impossible - the Raspberry Pi has an ARM CPU (which something like qemu is able to emulate) as well as a VideoCore IV GPU (which nothing is able to emulate). The .img files used by Raspberry Pi OS images are raw-disk images - nothing to do with floppy discs or CD...

Depends what the building + electrical code is at your location as well as your requirements for "hiding the Pi". Edited a bunch but didn't realize I don't get a bump with the edits... EDIT: I have searched a bunch and I also know that things have changed from the 2012 days. ESXi and many hypervisors can emulate ARM hardware these days. Was hoping to find a blog/post on how to get it properly running inside Hyp...
