I can't give a full throated endorsement of this USB WiFi dongle. The performance was seriously not good on both my Windows and Ubuntu laptops....

Q1) I zero fill the free space so I can compress it more effectively later. I keep a fair amount of backups and since the SD cards in my "production" systems are 32 GB, a full image is 32 GB. It adds up pretty quickly. I can get them down to less than 2GB if they are zero filled first. Q2)...
