Re: Industrial-Grade MicroSD

Should data be stored locally? or it is transferred to the some server/cloud/etc? I do have experience with both USB and microsd cards (over than hundred devices with each type of storage). I had dozens failures per year. Now I store all the data on the server (synchronization via USB 4G modem). I u...

Re: "Under-voltage detected" and red LED blink

RPi is powered from our custom PCB through 5V pin on 40-pin connector. 5V rail on our PCB is short and wide enough. I still have some questions Does the blinking mean that we could have stability problems even without "Under-voltage detected" errors? What is the minimum voltage for stable operation ...

Re: "Under-voltage detected" and red LED blink

What model Pi are you using? Mostly I have an issue with RPi 3. I have a few RPi 2 used, and I see undervoltage message as well. I've never seen this message at 3+ (with the same hardware setup), it looks like this model is more tolerant of voltage drop. And what is the current rating of your power...

"Under-voltage detected" and red LED blink

Hi We had some power-related issue in our project. At the moment of a USB peripheral device attach, the red LED blinked, and sometimes "Under-voltage detected" message appeared in the dmesg output. I thought that they should happen at the same time, but mostly I saw blinking only (with no errors in ...

Re: Buildroot recipe

How do you configure `systemd` to load the program at bootup? I do not use systemd with buildroot, sysv-like init is enough for most tasks. ]Are there any config things that need to be set to enable peripherals after image build, like what's accomplished by `raspi-config`? you should edit config.tx...

Re: Could be the same kernel image be used for RPi 2, 3 & 4?

You need the LPAE enabled kernel i.e. kernel7l.img or the beta 64-bit kernel for the Pi 4 as the PCIe controller is above 4GB. No PCIe = No USB. The old DWC USB controller is connected to the USB-C socket though so you could get around it that way I guess. oops, I use USB ports. kernel7l.img is inc...

Re: Could be the same kernel image be used for RPi 2, 3 & 4?

Yes, you can use the same kernel on 2, 3,and 4. Could you provide more details please? https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/boot_folder.md I found that kernel8.img could be used with RPi 2, but I doubt if BCM2836 is compatible with 64-bit kernel. Could kernel7.img be compatible w...

Could the same kernel image be used for RPi 2, 3 & 4?

Hi I use RPi's in my project. For now 2b, 3b, 3b+ are used. I guess I have to buy 4 for new devices. Now I use one kernel image for all models (built from https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux tree). Is it possible to build the one kernel image for RPi 2, 3, and 4? I use a cellular network (USB 4G-mo...

почему-то мне кажется, что те примеры связаны с x86 процессорами, а не с arm.

Re: SPI interface C code

There is kernel module, so you do not need do SPI programming at all. Do rpi-update to add anyspi support, add line to the config, txt: dtoverlay=anyspi:spi0-1,dev="microchip,mcp3201" (replace spi0-1 with actual address). After reboot you should be able to read ADC values via sysfs interface, e.g.: #...

Re: UART: mini UART or PL011

1.- The mini UART (/dev/ttyS0) is dependent on the frequency of the core VPU, which can vary according to the processor load, and therefore could be unstable and fail. look to "enable_uart=1" option in config.txt 2.- On the other hand, using the PL011 (/dev/ttyAMA0) implies having to disable Blueto...

Re: Inconsistent gpiochipX name

I tested RPi 2b, 3b, 3b+, there could be 1, 2 or 3 gpiochip devices on board. So my HC595 GPIO expander could be detected as gpiochip1, gpiochip2 or gpiochip3 (depending on the RPi model). Now I use this shell script: MYGPIOCHIP=`ls -1r /dev/gpiochip?|head -n1` [ "$MYGPIOCHIP" ] && /usr/bin/gpioset ...

Any reason to do not use Thumb-2

My target is RPi2 and later.
Is there any reason (other than support of first generation RPi) to do not use Thumb-2 instruction set?

AFAIK Thumb-2 produces more compact code with near to zero performance loss.

Inconsistent gpiochipX name

I use HC595 chip as SPI GPIO expander for a while. I have spidev interface used to manage this chip. Now I'm trying to use kernel GPIO ifrastructure. It works ok, but gpiochip device name differs across RPi models: gpiochip3 on RPi3 and gpiochip3 on RPi3+ # echo `cat /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/mo...
