Re: Ethernet only PI or alternatives?

Why doesn't a RPI2B with dietpi or raspbian-ua-netinst fit your needs? It's just a matter of cost I want to make a marketable product and the pi has alot of additional components that would go unused so I was hoping removal of those components could make it cheaper, and also smaller. I'm not sure i...

Re: Ethernet only PI or alternatives?

Thanks just checked that out sadly its not going to be fast enough for me. Essentially need an embedded computer with a single 100mB ethernet port and able to a lightweight version of linux. Keen to avoid having to build one of my own the A20 soc seems like a popular choice but doesn't have ethernet...

Yes but the A has USB and no ethernet my question was really can the usb be replaced with ethernet?

Ethernet only PI or alternatives?

Is there any board out there with a power input and an ethernet port and nothing else? Essentially a board that will load an os like raspbian or ubuntu but with no display drivers just ssh control. I don't need any of the other peripheral interfaces the pi offers, sadly the type A has a usb instead ...

How to fix unstable wi-fi connection

After setting up a pi as an ip camera I soon discovered my wi-fi connection was highly unstable often dropping out within a few hours occasionally after a day or two. After searching the forums and internet and a lot of messing around I have now got a stable wi-fi connection (uptime >2weeks now) I t...

RPI auto port forwarding

I'm setting up a remote vpn server. Its going to be running on a family members network which I have now configured to forward the correct ports. I wanted to set up a system on the pi that automatically maps the ports for itself should the router be changed/reset. I know its possible since its on th...

Re: USB Direct Power

I have now bridged with the wire as I suggested except the ground comes from the diode (end closest to the edge of board) instead of R51. raspberry-pi-power-mod.jpg I spent some time with my multimeter testing prior to that and my usb ports were getting 4.70-4.80v but the supply coming in was a stea...

Re: USB Direct Power

So you have done this and it is safe to connect a wire right from the polyfuse to the usb input without removing the usb connectors +5v from the board? This is what I had thought of doing, connect +5v to the usb header connect ground to header, add a capacitor across the usb + and - pins to prevent ...

Re: USB Direct Power

Can anyone explain why you need to disconnect power from the pi to the usb output port? Surely its the same +5 voltage from the external supply as is running into the polyfuse anyway so the jumper would just supply extra current as needed? Also has anyone done this already? I would be really surpris...

Re: Wifi reconnect tweak.. why does it work?

My question relates to whats causing this script to execute not the content of the script. The original file doesn't give much of a hint to its function or calls. 1 #!/bin/sh 2 set -e 3 4 case "$2" in 5 up) 6 /sbin/ifup $1 7 ;; 8 down) 9 /sbin/ifdown $1 10 ;; 11 esac The other one is too long to pos...

Wifi reconnect tweak.. why does it work?

I dont understand why this works anyone understand it? So far it seems to now work if I replug the adapter wifi hasn't dropped out yet so don't know if it will reconnect after that or not but the post I found it on seems to indicate it will work. Go to /etc/ifplugd/action.d/ and rename the ifupdown ...

Re: MMAL Motion - tuning & optimisations

Just read a post about inbuilt h.264 hardware motion detection on the gpu. Replacing motions cpu intensive algorithm with this inbuilt hardware system would surely improve performance. It seems the vector system has been exposed for use in the last update http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic....

Has anyone been able to get auth method 2 to work? Re: MMAL Motion - tuning & optimisations

@andies and @kyuzumaki - good news for you both! I think you can solve your problems without a new build... For upside down images, the option for mmalcam_control_params should be "--vflip" or "-vf". For night images, try this for mmalcam_control_params : "-ex night -mm average -ev 8 -ifx denoise" ...

Re: MMAL Motion - tuning & optimisations

I've resolved most of the line issues with a better power supply, i think my ethernet over power adapter is causing the signal but the good power supply filters it out better. I have been playing with settings now for ages to try to get good night shots. I can take really clear pictures at night usi...

I have tried to use a cronjob to run the following script but it seems to fail and I can't figure out why the file is chmod 755 #!/bin/bash #This script checks if there is an active connection to wifi and if not turns off and on the wifi to force a reconnect if ifconfig wlan0 | grep -q "inet addr:" ...

Re: Interference in low light

Thanks i'm glad others have seen it was worried it was particular to my camera! I'll have a play around with different power supplies then and see if that helps, I did try an off the shelf usb booster power supply thinking it would be a more stable 5v. That didn't help but its possible theres some i...

Interference in low light

I posted this in a motion thread however it is probably more suited to a separate thread. The camera is producing significant artefact in the form of horizontal bars in low light. I would like to find some way to stop this or filter it out as its triggering motion detection on my system. I've only g...

Re: MMAL Motion - tuning & optimisations

Two things i noticed: 1: The timestamp does not appear on images 2: It seems to crash after a short period of time not sure why but had to reset my pi a few times (have moved back to the stable version for now) When using motion with a pi noir i keep getting horizontal bars that flicker up and down ...
