Can't see minidlna server through RPi access point

I have a raspberry pi running a minidlna server on my hardwired LAN. I can see that server from VLC on computers hardwired into that LAN. I have a couple raspberry pi's acting as wireless access points. I can't seem to see my minidlna server using VLC on my phone which is connected to the wireless a...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Hi folks, I am trying to record videos for a dashcam with boxing off and do the mp4 boxing later on via this command: sudo echo 'sy startstop.sh start' >> /var/www/html/FIFO I have used the bash script that comes with the software: #!/bin/bash # example start up script which converts any existing .h...

Re: Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

IT WORKS! IT WORKS! This is the coolest thing I have done on my Pi's. I wish I had figured this out years ago. I have about 12 Pi's in my house doing lots of different jobs and the one thing I have struggled with the most is getting them to coordinate with each other. I have a lot of code to sort th...

Figured out the conversion. It was just:

Re: Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

Ok, so I got it to work by putting 'localhost' in the one machine (broker). In the other one, I left the IP address of the broker and it worked. Putting localhost in both, does not work. This is cool stuff. I will just set one Pi on my network as the broker and have all other machines reference to t...

Re: Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

Oh, that is interesting. I thought the addresses had to be different. Should they be the address of the publisher computer or the subscriber? They are not the actual addresses, but are different in my code. I did do the stuff above (command line stuff) so I know it is working fine - just not in my c...

Re: Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

Ok, trying this inside some existing python scripts and I must be missing something. So, this is a section from my computer (picontrol) that is subscribing to a topic and taking action if it gets a message: import datetime import time import paho.mqtt.client as paho def on_message(pihmi1, userdata, ...

Re: Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

Ran through your mini tutorial tonight @asandford and it WORKS. So cool. Replaced "localhost" with an ip address on my lan and can send messages between Pi's too. So cool.

Thanks!

Re: Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

Oh, this is cool stuff. Thanks for all the help folks. It is going to take me a few weeks to start playing around with this in my spare time. This is definitely what I need for my little home control IOT project.

I'll report back on progress.

Re: Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

In the meantime, I tried asandford's recommendation. I did this: sudo apt-get install mosquitto sudo pip install paho-mqtt And these two things installed no probs. I did some reading here: https://pypi.python.org/pypi/paho-mqtt/1.3.0 but quickly got lost. Have not yet found a tutorial for dummies on...

Re: Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

I think you meant: sudo python setup.py install I tried that and got: zip_safe flag not set; analyzing archive contents... creating dist creating 'dist/python_banyan-2.1-py2.7.egg' and adding 'build/bdist.linux-armv6l/egg' to it removing 'build/bdist.linux-armv6l/egg' (and everything under it) Proce...

Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

Hi Python Masters, I have a bunch of Pi's running various python scripts in my house. They do a whole bunch of fun house monitoring jobs. For quite a while, I was passing data between them via a simple NFS server and just writing the information to text files. I have had issues with the number of wr...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

I tried dropping the network link and it worked fine. This is baffling me. It was working before. I don't think there is anything wrong with your software. There is something up with my network. I think I will try a different approach. I will save the files onto the card in the camera then sync them...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Hi folks, Just wondering if anybody has ideas here? It seems to be sporadic. One camera is able to process the videos and convert to mp4 videos and the other never seems to do it. Wondering if it is because they are both saving to a common NFS file server but then again, this was never an issue bef...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

I recently upgraded to the newest version on two cameras I have at work. I am saving the media files onto an NFS server via a symbolically linked /var/www/html/media file. However, since the upgrade, the MP4Box does not seem to be converting any saved videos. I have lots of .h264 files but no .MP4s...

Re: RPi as wifi access point - dual direction traffic

Does anybody understand IP tables and know why I can't access the clients on my wifi network from my hard eth0 network?

FYI, I did do this:

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/sysctl.conf

net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
Thanks,

RPi as wifi access point - dual direction traffic

I set up my RPi 3 as an access point, and these are the iptables-rules I had and it worked just fine for traffic originating on a wifi device accessing the LAN (eth0): :PREROUTING ACCEPT [44:4003] :INPUT ACCEPT [25:2294] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [13:886] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [0:0] -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MAS...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Hi Folks, Is there a way to intiate a timelapse image sequence at something like one every second using motion sensing? I am using this to record photos of birds.
