Re: When are people in the U.S. getting their Pi 4s?

My order from Canakit isn't supposed to ship until August 1. Though the reports I'm seeing regarding other resellers give me hope, maybe. If not, though, I knew what I was signing up for when I bought it lol EDIT: Although the kit I bought now says ships July 11 on the order page, hopefully that app...

There is the resistor issue that makes the Pi4 not work with many USB-PD chargers apparently.

It wouldn't surprise me if mixing debian and raspbian packages ended poorly.

Re: Run two scripts simultaneously at RPi's boot.

You can put a line starting with @reboot in crontab
Something like

Code: Select all

@reboot /bin/cat /dev/zero>/dev/null
Don't do that, it'll generate cpu load for no good reason

Re: raspbian buster doesn't have mysql-workbench

Raspbian Buster is more or less close to final release status, there are likely only going to be a few bug fixes between now and release. And it's been a thing that existed, albeit perhaps not something you should use, since right around when Stretch came out. EDIT: referring to this part of the fir...

I would say there have been a lot of problems, but probably not more than would be expected from this sort of thing.

It hasn't been pushed back (yet?). I knew what I was signing up for when I bought it, lol.

W. H. Heydt may I borrow that violin to play it? I ordered a pi4b4 kit from canakit on June 25 Chicago time, and it's not scheduled to ship until August 1. If I have to guess your pi was backordered when you ordered it and this is expected behavior. If I'm wrong, it's ridiculous for them to take so ...

I fail to see how putting /boot on a microsd is playing with fire, you shouldn't be writing much to /boot, and if /boot dies, it should be trivial to replace.

Assuming this is a bug with the "bounce buffer code" it can be fixed in software, right?

I actually use a 3B+ with usb hd as a NAS connected over wifi, for my needs, which aren't many random accesses or anything like that, it's fine.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

I saw somewhere that the Pi4 only supports 3d on one display, if using two, the other one doesn't support 3d.

Would I be able to do Kodi once that situation's sorted out on one display and use desktop stuff benefiting from 3d on the other at the same time?

Re: Can the pi 4 boot off exfat?

Good point.

Still, given the effort that would be involved and the possible need to remove features from the bootloader to make it fit on the EEPROM, I'd rather see resources go elsewhere.

Re: downloading raspbian: too slow

At least in the US, I'm pretty sure dialup is available., There are places so rural that there's no options for broadband other than satellite or dialup. Anyway, I tried over 3 different connections and got 21.3 MB/s, 3.35 MB/s, and 2.37 MB/s, or about 160-ish mbps, 25-ish mbps, and 20-ish mbps. So ...

Re: Can the pi 4 boot off exfat?

Didn't MS license their patents for free to the open-source community? That said, even without patent licensing, I'd rather see the engineering resources spent on things that provide better return on the improvement/effort spectrum. And is there even enough space in the bootloader EEPROM or whatever...

Re: Outdated Octane Benchmark Score on Raspberry Pi 4 1 GB RAM

8k or so octane score is very usable. And as far as I can tell, one fast core is gonna beat more not as fast cores in octane. Or at the very least, 2 fast cores beats 4 not so fast cores. Look at the n3060 getting 8.8k-ish vs the n3160 getting 8k-ish. Apparently the 3060's turbo boost is higher than...

Re: Outdated Octane Benchmark Score on Raspberry Pi 4 1 GB RAM

GPU might actually matter. On my n3350-based Chromebook on M75, the octane score is 10903. Running the version of chromium in Debian Stable, M73 I think, via Crostini (which on most chromebooks doesn't support GPU acceleration) the score is 8885. There is a cpu penalty, although the benchmarks I've ...

Re: Outdated Octane Benchmark Score on Raspberry Pi 4 1 GB RAM

And apparently there's a major issue in the Chromium build in Buster that requires that they disable GPU to work around it. Apparently the octane score will likely go up fairly significantly once they reenable GPU.
