Christmas Light Show Project

Hello folks! This is a continuation of the project I created last year which can be found here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=658994#p658994 Since last year I created a few more effects for the API and thought of ways I could incorporate the Sense HAT or live stream shows with t...

Re: Using a gyroscope module

An internet search for "L3G4200D raspbian" throws up many links to blog posts from people who have used this device. Alternatively, is it too late to consider sending it back and buying one from a supplier who provides support for using their modules with the Raspberry Pi? Thanks! I honestly have n...

Re: Using a gyroscope module

Oops, I forgot to mention that the BASIC code was from the company's code samples. There was another sample for a language called Spin. I don't even know what that is. Anyway, if I have this right, there's just a magic variable (or more, I'm aware) that I can call in any language? Thanks in advance ...

Tizen 2.3

Hello folks. I'm not sure if anyone who's interested in Tizen knows about this, but there's a port for the RPi 2! Find it here: http://www.tizenexperts.com/2015/04/bootable-image-for-tizen-on-raspberry-pi-2-released/ I'm having one small issue: I can't get past the launcher screens. I just installed...

Re: Power-On Button

Thanks for your input. Preventing a circuit cut when running is the challenge. My PI is configured to 60 mins idlebefore shutdown. I restart it once or twice a day when I know that it's possible to increase the time or even set it to never (only manual). This would keep the PI running 24/7 instead ...

Re: Using a gyroscope module

Thanks for all the help so far! I was able to get the gyro and the Pi to recognize each other when I used

Code: Select all

i2cdetect -y 1
in the terminal, but I'm having difficulty adapting the BASIC code to Python because, well, I don't know enough BASIC to be able to translate.

Help?

Using a gyroscope module

Hello folks. Today I picked up a Parallax Gyroscope module so I could use it with my Raspberry Pi. Here's the product link so you know what I'm talking about: https://www.parallax.com/product/27911 I connected the pins like I thought they should go, (3V3 from the Pi to VIN on the module, SDA to SDA,...

Hehe, I'm certainly not a developer!

Are there any out there that could cobble one together? I think the RPi community would like another OS to choose from.

Re: Poll of the Week III

Composite probably won't even get a vote. Prove me wrong. ;) two people have already (not me). I have been proven wrong :P p.s. you didn't include VGA, I suppose any method of VGA connection has to be initially from one of the other types. I honestly meant too, but I decided that since you have to ...

Ubuntu Touch 15.10

Is there a download for Ubuntu Touch images that I can flash to an SD card? I haven't been able to find any that I could download online.

If anyone knows how I can get one could you let me know? Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm assuming I could do the same thing for the GPIO header? I'm guessing this since there are other empty header ports.

. . . for example I wanted to make a phone or smart MP3 player but I didn't want it to be a inch thick and stretching out my pockets. For a display I could use a touchscreen As ame said, "yes, if you do it carefully"... but, before you toast your RPi, you might want to take a look at micro python a...

Re: Poll of the Week II

That's pretty much why I asked the initial question... How do you define an "Original Model B"? Is it one of the first 10K order? Is it one with 140mA polyfuses? Is it any Model B with 256MB of RAM? Whether or not I have one depends on how you define it. Without a definition, your data has no meani...

I wasn't really looking to go that deep...just an overall big picture.

For curiosity's sake :P

Removing ports from the Pi

I know I saw a thread on this somewhere in these vast boards, but I can't seem to find it. So I'll start fresh with this one... Would it hurt the Raspberry Pi if I unsoldered (carefully, of course) the ports from the sides of the Pi? Say for example I wanted to make a phone or smart MP3 player but I...

I think it is very good that this project idea has spurned so much interest!

Bluetooth would have a sufficient range for a panic button, and it would work better in larger residences (and outside should something happen there.).

Yes, I tried that as well. It's sort of a hit-or-miss thing now. It's been pretty steady on the hit part, so I think I'm good for now.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure you can get VLC through apt. VLC is an amazing media player and it's light and efficient.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get vlc
