Re: Raspbian for Desktop without GUI or anything fancy

I want to install Raspbian via VirtualBox without any GUI or other software (pure command line). I tried "Debian with Raspberry Pi Desktop" but I found no option (like an expert install) for that? Any advice how to get something that comes as close as possible to a minimalistic Raspbian install on ...

Re: Rpi 3 > NOOBS > SD 32 Gb

Hello. I'm going to make dual boot with NOOBS (OpenELEC & Lakka) on 32 Gb SD Card. The question is, how much free space (for video & roms) will get each system? The systems partitions be extended to the SD card size? Or some space of card will not used? Thanks. https://github.com/raspberrypi/noobs/...

Re: Something new

It would be great to have some semi-permanent memory on board RasPi. Either NOVA-RAM, or FRAM. Why ? Many RasPi is used for data collection. New large SD-cards do not take but about 2000 R/W cycles. Using SD card for data collection destroys the card in a year or even some months. Collecting data s...

Hello, Firstly I should mention that this is my first time handling a pi and am not familiar with it. What I want to do is to add a microphone and a speaker to my raspberry pi zero W. But I'm not sure how to go about it. If say I get a speaker like this one: https://www.thingbits.net/products/speak...

Unfortunately I don't have any control on the other end. The other end runs windows and it won't be possible to run linux on it. Thanks though!

Re: Running OnShape on a Raspberry Pi 3 with Raspian

Thanks for your answer, yes I know that OnShape could be to power consuming for the RPI3 - and I still work on different Notebooks using OnShape. But I love the idea of working and doing all my stuff on the Raspberry Pi. That was the reason for my question. Onshape is for free if you use the "publi...

Re: Any way to turn the Pi Zero off except for an MCU + MOSFET?

Is there any simpler way to do it? And a related question: I plan to shut it off by issuing a GPIO command, to turn a pin high or low, at which point the power will magically disappear. Assuming that I want the shortest power off time after I am done with my tasks, what is the safest way to do it? ...

Re: RasPi 3B to PC via USB?

Hi, I'm an inexperienced RasPi-er just learning about the platform. Recently I found a USB cable Male-Male, something like this https://c.76.my/Malaysia/usb-2-0-type-male-to-male-connector-short-cable-30cm-hdd-pc-computer-doinfinity-1204-20-doinfinity@2.jpg lying around in my cables bin . I have tried to follow many online tutorials to make my raspberry pi work as usb/ethernet device. I do not even see it in device management. for those interested, I have used the latest raspbian full version and 2016-05-10 raspbian jessie full. Re: Desktop install -. I'm lost

. All the problems I have with this OS are from the raspbian packages and configs that are not the same as debian main.... RPF / RPT use Debian Stretch x86 as its base, so not sure where you get the idea that changes are made to Debian x86.. The only modifications are to the LXDE Desktop Package..

I'm currently browsing an online shop in which I saw 2 options for the Pi 3 power supply. 1 with 13W and the other, with 12.75W. - The thing is, err. any reason to make a less .25 W supply? - Will it affect the Pi in some way? Thank you. Buy the Official PSU: https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/ra...

Re: How do I recover files

I'm sceptical, does gparted in fact allow the recovery of a file ? or does it only recover partitions? well you could a least try it.... if the file wasn't closed, it exists only as data in raw sectors, probably randomly spread over your storage, but not as a file. Yes it does, I had a SATA HDD whi...

Hi @topguy, I linked up sensors to the rpi and what it needs to do is as soon as any event occurs, it needs to send a signal to the computer right away. Now the only thing I need to do is to send it over to the PC via USB, as wifi or any networking would not be reliable. Could you please elaborate ...

You need a USB SDHC Card Reader.
