Re: LCD HD44780 in 8 bit mode

Oddly enough I put an electrolytic and ceramic cap across LCD vcc and gnd which basically turned into a failure antenna. Soon as I threw power on or off instant blanking of the screen. I have a drawer of junk though and I pulled another 20x4 LCD out and replaced it and sure enough I have yet to real...

Re: LCD HD44780 in 8 bit mode

Well I thought I had this whipped but just noticed another corruption. How do I modify these timings? Is that when you build lcdproc (i installed from apt-get)? Modify driver? Edit conf?

Thanks......John

Re: LCD HD44780 in 8 bit mode

Having a heck of a time uploading a pic from my iPad to a post here but I have an under the hood pic on my blog now. Also removed the 10k pot and twisted two 4.7k ohm resistors together and put it on the V0 (pin 3) contrast. Perfect screen contrast. That is not depicted yet in any photo on the page....

Re: LCD HD44780 in 8 bit mode

Thanks guys. I suspect a giant blast of EMI was getting in my EN line. I went ahead and installed in my amp in 8 bit mode with 16 wires and it is working like a champ. The EN line is roughly in the exact same place it was on the LCD end but I did move the pi from directly under the amp to mounting i...

LCD HD44780 in 8 bit mode

I installed a 20x4 LCD into a tube headphone amp (with Pi3 and a USB DAC) and used someone else's very cool python script to pull data from logitechmediaserver. I thought it was a pretty neat project however every single time I threw the AC on or off I would suffer data corruption on the LCD screen....

A minor twist on the Pi Wall Calendar

Took my old, old TV that I had a Google Calendar on (inspired by someone else, not my design) and gave it an update. The old project: http://www.hagensieker.com/picalendar/index.php Bought a new smart TV, changed my homepage from a self made vanilla calendar from google html embed code and a weather...

Re: Pi3 speed compared to Pi2

just got my Pi3 today and I run headless with Jessie and a media server program called JRiver Media Center.

Between that and the VNC session it was hell going through the massive music library. Now it's much much snappier. Great investment of $35 for me.

Re: Pi 2 GQRX and SDR Radio

Here's one more tidbit. Once I got it all tidied up I decided to put a nice wallpaper on it and even that crashes it after a few minutes. Also I shut down GQRX, opened firefox, closed it and then opened GQRX. No go. GQRX on Pi 2 can only be accomplished (that I've found so far) with a blank backgrou...

Re: Pi 2 GQRX and SDR Radio

I've literally been working on this for ages and finally think I have it figured out. GQRX running perfectly on Raspberry Pi 2. I will say that when you are running gqrx is it ALL that can be running. Chopping anything unnecessary is a must. My config is Arch Linux, overclocked to 1000 and in turbo ...

Pi 2 GQRX and SDR Radio

Is there anyone out there who's perfected running GQRX with SDR dongle on a Pi 2? I've seen one video of a guy running it however the video is only a couple minutes long. I was able to build from source the latest 2.5 something version and I too can get it going for several minutes before it starts ...

Too Many Pi's

I've got it bad. - Pi A+ built in tube radio as Logitechmediaserver. - Pi A+ similar config not installed in anything (with LCD). - Pi B which acts as 3G hotspot. - Pi B which acts as Google Calendar on old TV mounted to wall. - Pi B breadboarded with thermal probe. - 2 currently unused Pi B's. Mayb...

Is this possible with LED's?

i want to build a mock up of a Navy Aircraft visual landing aid system (my job). It will look like this Y=Yellow R=Red G=Green The center column would only light one row of three at a time and could be toggled down through the middle. (5 rows) The horizontal row of 12 greens would mostly stay on all...

Re: Google Calendar on TV screen

I just used an iframe to upload to my homepage to remove all the clutter. Now its much cleaner and much less "Googlish"

I added some instructions on my page for doing that.

Google Calendar on TV screen

This is a rip off of an Intstructable page I found. This saved a Pi model B and an old TV from the garage shelf. As I was working through it I noticed a couple minor details such as stopping pop ups that weren't covered by the author. (My Pi has no keyboard or mouse, pop ups were a problem.) http://...

PIR sensor w video, dropbox upload, email

Put together a Pi with an Adafruit PIR and camera module that detects motion, videos, uploads video to dropbox then sends email notification. In true open source fashion this is all stuff I found in a couple places, put it together and tried to make a simplistic tutorial. Neat little project. http:/...

Every time I consider getting rid of my Roland Vinyl Sign cutter, which I don't use enough, I am glad that I did not. This is my 1950's Crosley Radio case with Pi B+, Official TouchScreen, IQAudioDAC+ and AMP+ running Debian Jesse and Jivelite (LogitechMediaServer). Job is never complete until custo...

Re: Pi Jivelite in Antique Radio

Here's a bit of an update. Sanded the case and painted red, Shined up the decorative pieces (although that didn't help much) and figured out how to mount the whole thing reliably inside the radio. Will have two rotary encoders. One for volume and one for shutdown. Might play around with a proper saf...

Pi Jivelite in Antique Radio

Found a 1958 Crosley E15 radio which has a PERFECT size cutout for the Pi Touch Screen. Mounted a Pi B+, IQAudio DAC+, and an IQAudio AMP+ on the back of the touch screen. Right now it is just propped up inside the enclosure but you get the idea. I'll probably paint the bakelite enclosure and re-chr...

Pi A+ w/ HiFiBerry DAC, LCD -Logitechmediaserver display

Just slapped together a PiA+ with HiFIBerry DAC+ and an HD44780 LCD. The LCD uses LCDPROC and found a script file on the internet to display playing music from the LogitechMediaServer service. Thank you Open Source Software! I did my best to do a step by step tutorial and even made a crummy looking ...

I'm getting ready to build a Jivelite (logitechmediaserver Squeezebox Touch clone) and wanted to add a rotary encoder to manually control volume. I actually did this about a year ago but pulled it out of the spare room and redid the SD card with Raspian Wheezy, and logitechmediaserver. I have a hot tub that had been in storage 10 years and it worked a week and the push button control board went out. I ordered a new part and changed it. Pi A+ won't boot with Edimax Wi-Fi dongle

Just got a new A+ in the mail. I have many, many pi's and this is the first time I've ever seen this. Pi lights up normally with no USB dongle and no SD card. Pi boots normally with SD card and latest Rasbian. Pi refuses to boot or power up with Edimax Wifi dongle in the USB slot. No red LED, Nothin...
