Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

Can you start kodi as root ? If so, it is a permissions problem with your current user. Sudo kodi Gives the same effect. black screen. https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/3qhfzTNGN6/ Are you trying to open Kodi remotely ? It doesn't work on VNC/RDP and that kind of stuff. It only works on a TV connected to ...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

You are using a different user than the default "pi", that's probably your problem, you have to add some groups to that user, see fisrt post to how to do it. You have to restart at the end. If it still doesn't work, try with user "pi". sudo usermod -a -G audio,video,input,dialou...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

This maybe a silly question but do kodi require desktop to run? I have this what would I call headless setup with running samba, sabnzbd, sonarr, docket etc so I decided to check how kodi run is it better than my old android TV box. So I've install kodi as first post but when I run kodi or kodi-sta...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

I tried to get a more interesting log, but I don't think I got it: https://paste.kodi.tv/yalolocaga.kodi The log corresponds to the following actions: Kodi launch. Navigation to the video. Video playback (the screen turns green and the sound is normal, then very quickly the screen freezes and the s...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

If you want to compile Kodi 19 for the RPi, you shouldn't grab the debian tarballs, it doesn't matter if it is from stable, testing or unstable. That is because Debian ARM Kodi, is a generic version, not optimized for any platform, so it doesn't support Hardware video decoding and other stuff. It i...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

I googled a bit and tried switching to the full kms mode dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d,cma-384 That is fake kms mode, currently the default on the RPi 4. cma is a kind of shared memory, there is some topics here in this forum explaining what it does. Full KMS or simply KMS is "dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d&q...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

Right, based on feedback in this thread I have given up on trying to use the Debian sources to build a deb, and have just run the build in a container and packaged up the build output. I can see that Kodi solves the ffmpeg version problem by including ffmpeg 4.3 as part of its build, and I get a ko...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

To compile Kodi by yourself you shouldn't need to backport anything but you will probably need to compile also libcec at least if you want everything to work. You also need to compile the binary addons if you use any of them. It should be easier to compile than the previous versions. Performance on ...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

Oh, and I was forgetting the thing that bothers me the most on the RPi 4. You can't seek h264. This is a problem that begun with the first versions of Kodi 19 abd still hasn't a solution. Well it is has a workaround which to disable hardware decoding for h264....

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

Well, for me this is unacceptable. Since my main RPi use is Kodi, I prefer to stay and/or downgrade the kernel for now which is the same. If that isn't going to change anytime sooner, maybe it is time to upgrade to something better. Does this mean you won't be working on 19.0, since it's not compat...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

I'm pretty content with Kodi 18.7 on Pi 3, but would like to ask the same question as the gentleman before me: What is the reason for version 18.9 being absent in the repos? Or has anyone succeeded with building his own binaries? The reason is a mix of many things. First, I am having a lot of work ...

Re: kodi does not start after apt-get update/upgrade at Rpi4b with Raspberry OS

So if you start Kodi from a terminal you get no output and only a black screen? Screen stays always black and only returns to the command prompt if you kill kodi via ssh? If so it looks like you have a permissons issue because it starts with sudo. A crashlog or a normal log should appear the later o...

Hallo, I made an apt-get update/upgrade at my rpi4 on Feb.. 6th, 2021 with the result that kodi here does not start anymore at all on this device. There comes a black screen. Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspberry Pi OS / Raspbian Buster

I want to report that a recent update regressed Kodi playback on my RPi2. 720p playback became a bit choppy, and 1080p50 (which had been smooth for years since I created the disable_auto_turbo=0 fix) produced extreme stuttering. Does Netflix/Widevine work the same way with Kodi under Raspian for Pi 4 as it does with libreelec on Pi4?
