Re: HEVC videos not playing propperly in Raspbian and VLC

This was posted in the last week, I am sure that similar questions regards HEVC has been asked: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=269014&p=1633222 Thanks a lot! After providing more GPU memory the jellyfish test movie is running fine in Kodi. In VLC i just have a black screen....

Re: HEVC videos not playing propperly in Raspbian and VLC

Hi guys, i recently bought a Pi4 with 4GB RAM and want to use it as DNS- and VPN-Server and Mediacenter. So i guess raspbian is the best choice instead of LibreELEC etc. Unfortunately i'm not able to watch HEVC 4K movies on the Pi. The file is on an external harddrive connected on USB3. In VLC i ju...

Re: HEVC videos not playing propperly in Raspbian and VLC

That's a 4K HEVC HDR/10bit video. HDR/10bit support on RPi 4 is not yet complete so it is normal that it won't play fine. Colors will be washed for example. Also notice that is a very high bitrate file, 140 Mbit/s.
Full support for HDR/10bit should only come on Kodi 19, don't know about VLC.

Re: RPi4 video performance

I'm puzzled that nine months after the release of the Pi 4 Libreelec is still better at this than Raspbian. I guess we're now at the point where the Pi 4 was originally planned to be released so it's about time. LibreELEC is JEOS (just enough OS) a minimum OS with only the needed to run Kodi. That'...

Re: How to set up KODI to start at boot and run background

Hello, I had the same question and found a solution :) With latest Raspbian, I installed previous version of kodi (17), still available in the official repo: # sudo apt-get install kodi=2:17.6+dfsg1-4+b1 (for later, it is possible to find available versions of a package with # apt-cache madison kod...

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspbian Buster

Kodi updated to 18.6
No specific Raspbian changes.

Just update and upgrade the packages has you normally do.*

*Note that this packages are not yet available on Raspberry Pi repos, only on the PiPplware repo, you have to wait a little bit.

Re: RPi4 video performance

I haven't increased GPU memory yet. I also had to make a change so a USB mouse would be smooth instead of choppy. kind of baffling how this was necessary. I also get tearing when running raspbian at 1080p on a 4K TV, but that's part of my unrelated gripes. That's why it didn't work good for you, if...

Re: How to set up KODI to start at boot and run background

You cannot run Kodi on the background on the Raspberry Pi, it will always stay on top of everything.
Either way, Kodi is not designed to run on background.

PS: Raspbian Jessie is ancient.

Re: RPi4 video performance

Kodi on Raspbian on the RPi 4 works fine here as a video player, also connected to another RPi 3 serving as NAS. It plays all my movie/tv series colection at any resolution, even Blueray rips. It should also play any 720p video file even at software decoding. I suspect that you didn't setup Kodi pro...

Re: Kodi on my raspberry pi doesn't work properly!

Your problem is that you are using a very old system, with a not so old kernel/firmware and probably third party repos.

I recommend that you download latest Raspbian, install it and start from there.

Thanks will do. Can I still use the skin mod or does it have to be clean kodi no addons?
Clean, default skin. If the problem is the skin I can't do anything, you have to post your problem in Kodi forum, sub topic of that skin.

Thank for the response! That setting is already turned off. I can start again, would you want to see the log in case there is something that can be fixed? Re: Kodi & emulationstation on RPI4

Emulation Station and Kodi cannot be opened at the same time. For example, in Kodi, you cannot have an icon to start ES, because Kodi must be closed first. Well in theory you can if you write a working script that closes Kodi, starts ES and then when you close ES to start Kodi again, but that's not ...

Re: STICKY: If you have a Raspberry Pi 4 and are getting bad speeds transferring data to/from USB3.0 SSDs, read this

Just my two cents: It was probably already mentioned in this topic, at least I already read the same problem that I have in this forum. If you are using an external USB 3.0 enclosure with a disk, and also using the internal Pi 4 wifi you might get problems. Most of the USB 3.0 enclosures have a weak...

Re: VLC crashing with some H265 video files.

Updated kernel/firmware using rpi-update tool and the problem still exists. Other HEVC videos (higher resolution) that I use to test Kodi play fine. That's something the Raspberry Pi devs should take a look. If you downgrade kernel/firmware using rpi-update tool to commit 8bb38ef0267ab09d5ff6f2c3b48...

Well it was working fine on both Kodi and VLC, but I didn't update my Pi 4 for more than 1 month. Just updated it, and I can confirm that now VLC crashes and Kodi doesn't play it well, a grey bar appears as you said. It is most likely a kernel/firmware bug again as Kodi version is the same, not sure...

Re: VLC crashing with some H265 video files.

It plays just fine in Kodi on Raspbian on a RPi 4 here. It is a very low resolution file (640x272) so it is normal to be blocky, but it plays just as good as my laptop.
