Re: pi3 wifi speed versus pi1 ethernet over usb

Its a Jessie yes... Distributor ID: Raspbian Description: Raspbian GNU/Linux 8.0 (jessie) Release: 8.0 Codename: jessie I'd have to write to the PC then write it to an MicroSD though... and if I had to reinstall from scratch I'd just copy the samba and apache config files to the new one..

Sounds like it will be a decent upgrade then. I guess the ethernet on the Pi's is the bottleneck then being over USB...

pi3 wifi speed versus pi1 ethernet over usb

Is the Pi3's network speed faster over wifi than it is using the Pi1's ethernet port?

Looking to update a file server as it is taking ages to copy 3Gig files across at the moment.

Would I be able to just copy the Raspbian from the old Pi onto the new one or will it be a new install/configuration?

How to tell which Pi I have

How do I tell which Pi I have?

The (C) on the board is 2011 so I'm guessing its a Pi 1... Its using big SD cards rather than the smaller ones the newer ones use.

If it is a Pi1 will it run Docker ok...?

Re: Raspberry Pi 2B as a Media Streamer

Yes it can - grab openelec from http://openelec.tv - make sure you grab the Pi2 version not the Pi1... I had a Pi1 runnong OSMC which is another media centre using Kodi and the Pi2 is a lot faster than the Pi1 Dont use Hulu and Netflix but I'm sure that there is a plugin for Kodi for those apps. I want to use this to install to a USB connected HDD - Is the installer like the standard debian one where it goes through asking you for partitioning steps etc...?

Also does it write the cmdline.txt to boot off the HD afterwards?

Has anyone compared nginx and apache on the Pi model B? At the moment have apache/php/mysql running wordpress for a test server and it is very slow for serving files...
