Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

thanks @jbeale. I found this page which actually gives a pretty decent explanation (ie in plain terms I can understand) of normal lenses and fisheye lenses: http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/technical/field_of_view.html I'm still puzzled by the 200 deg since I'm unclear how light enters the lens ...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

somewhat OT, but I can't think of a better crowd to ask... I've been using custom lenses for a while (m12) and more or less experiments my way to good results. I am however looking at a fisheye lens and got stuck while trying to figure out how that was gonna work. Two questions (that I've been unabl...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

fwiw, the only project I've seen to successfully do this is Picam, which goes beyond that and also does audio acquisition, however I've had problems getting it going (and it compiles in the ffmpeg libraries for a performance boost):

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

Thanks spike! But are those packages not available for the R-Pi? they are, that's what I pasted from, however I upgraded all my pies to jessie (and I actually run a custom build based on minibian that's much smaller than raspian). If you're still on wheezy the pkg seems to be simply called php-apc:...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

@jbeale, no rogue process, that should just be standard php5 maintenance script to clean up the caches, which is what apc is incidentally about. You should have a cron script here on your pi: /etc/cron.d/php5 Because it's about cleaning up caches and whatnot I think it's trying to load common librar...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

also since I'm at it, I thought I'd also share this improved version of my freespace script that works with the archive system The idea is pretty simple: define the mountpoint/disk to monitor and the max % of space you want to be in use and the script will find and delete the oldest file in the medi...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

Regarding archival and the problem of many video files crippling performances. I don't have enough time right now to work on the php code and as a matter of fact I mostly only use media.php which is already taking the video directory as a parameter. Therefore what I've ended up doing is to add a scr...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

@billw, I've been thinking about the issue with scandir() and concluded that without bringing in caching and other more "complicated" solutions the best approach is probably do what they normally do with imap folders and similar and split into subdirs. I've added a camera to a frontdesk place and it...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

But if you want an independently running script to have the info, then there could be a FIFO command dump. But dump to where, maybe a dump to a file? I could add a FIFO command like: dumpvar $v somefile which would write the last recorded video to "somefile". Or what would be better? yeah that's ex...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

There was a bug where videos could be deleted by reloading the videos web page and I put up a fix for that a few days ago. Could that have been the cause of your seeing videos not being recorded or do you think something else is going on (and what are the indications that a video was not recorded)?...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

Dear all, I'm trying to setup monitoring for my cameras because we don't have people to watch the video 24x7 and while there's a routine to review footage I need to make sure at best I can that the cameras are operating correctly at all times. I'm using Nagios as a monitoring system to keep an eye o...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

I seem to be running into a green line at the bottom of the screen when setting video mode to 720p or 1296x972. It doesn't happen with any other video mode.

Any ideas what that may be?

thanks,
Spike

Re: PiKrellCam: Light source

My experience shows me that unless I have that light source right up at the camera, lighting is minimally effective. Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

Hey @Billw, thanks for the info in previous posts, all make sense. A few more things: - this morning I found one of the new outdoor cameras I deployed PKC to wasn't recording. The OSD was saying that motion was detected and a new video file created, same in the log, but no file was to be found. I co...

Re: Mechanical IR-cut out filter for Pi-Noir

I just recently bought and fitted an IR Cut filter switcher, purchased on ebay, for the astonishing price of £1.19 including shipping. It has a large enough filter to sit comfortably in front of the PiNoir. To flip it from day to night, I use a simple H-bridge circuit that flips it one way or the o...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

Hey Billw, I can end up with quite long periods of motion (10 minutes) and that creates a couple problems I'm wondering about: - is boxing threaded? it looks like it since it seems to be using exec_child_event that calls exec_command that uses a fork, but again, not a C guy really, might be missing ...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

When the count goes above the count limit, the vectors in the count must also pass density checks. is the density cont exposed anywhere? Umm, do you mean the spkl count? In case that's so, I'll explain that. thanks for the explanation, I did read up on sparkle and it makes perfect sense, that's one of the things that was biting me a lot with raspimjpeg. However what I meant is the number next to it. On the OSD I see: cnt: X rej: X s...
