Re: Bitcoin Mining, is it worth it?

You could ask the same question about buying a fancy sports car or truck. We as humans each learn different ways. When I encourage students to learn about things, you attempt to find out what they are interested and see if you can link it to that. I could point out web sites for people to learn abou...

Re: Bitcoin Mining, is it worth it?

That sounds like a fun project. As you suspect, not worth it from a financial point of view, but fun. I teach electrical engineering for a living. You learn a lot from the work putting it together. Now the technical questions, super caps or batteries? How big of panels do you have? Will they track t...

Re: Bitcoin Mining, is it worth it?

As others have said, for profit, nope. Even the Pi4 is very slow. But for those that just want to get lucky, there are a couple of sites out there that let you mine in lottery mode. If you are the lucky one that finds the block, you get 95-99% of the value. For bitcoins, that is something like $100K...

Re: Having issues with MacOS Catalina and gadget mode

Setting the MAC address to a specific value did fix my problem. Thanks for that. I did it in the cmdline.txt file. I added the following to cmdline.txt: modules-load=dwc2,g_ether g_ether.host_addr=00:22:82:ff:ff:20 g_ether.dev_addr=00:22:82:ff:ff:22 I put it after the rootwait I should have thought ...

Don't beat around the bush, just tell me how you feel.

Thanks, maybe one of these days, Apple will fix it.

Having issues with MacOS Catalina and gadget mode

I have used the pi zero in gadget mode off of a USB port on my mac for years. The only minor issue I had is that every time I plug in and boot the pi, a new driver is installed in the list. Catalina changed that. Now I can't get a reliable connection. Every time I reboot the pi, the address doesn't ...

Re: Upload a pic every minute

You might want to create a small ramdisk, maybe 50-100 meg. Have raspistill save the image to there, it will reduce the writes to your SD card. I have had a webcam going for several years. It was a pi 2 that would copy an image every 30 seconds to another server, a pi 4 now with 1T SSD for the syste...

I have been running a live web site on a Pi 2 for the last couple of years. It does fine with a Wordpress Blog, web cam, and email system. Re: mouse and keyboard don't work with hub usb 3.0 on Raspberry

Old problem with USB 3 hubs. If you plug a USB 2 hub into the USB 3 hub, then that will work. Sorry it isn't a nice solution. But the USB 1.x slow devices such as keyboards and mice somehow don't register when plugged into a USB 3 hub on a pi.

Re: Is the Raspberry Pi Secure online?

It can be. Make sure you change the default passwords. I am running a Wordpress blog and full email system on a Pi2. Although it has been updated, it hasn't been rebooted in 345 days. I do run the apt-get update/upgrade frequently and really should reboot when there is a kernel update. I do have an ...

Re: Does Ethernet gadget mode still work on Raspberry Pi Zer

Yes it works fine.

I used it with both jessie-lite and the full jessie on a Pi Zero W. I did it from a 2016 MacBook Pro with USB-C to USB-A dongle. Make sure you edit a few files in the boot partition and also create a file named ssh in the boot directory.

Re: On the next version of the Zero (without adding cost)

Yes you can just create a block to plug into the GPIO pins, just trying to get a few ideas going. Maybe a few signals that aren't on the GPIO could be there also. The Idea is to do something with the board that doesn't increase cost. Yes I know that a relayout would cost, but that is just once. I te...

On the next version of the Zero (without adding cost)

How about on the next version of the zero, add solder pads and traces on the bottom of the board for a few useful circuits. Don't solder on the parts, just the traces. There are a few things that might be useful for a few but by only putting the traces on and not the parts it won't increase the cost...

Re: RPi Zero RAM bus width

If you are asking about the hardware, a quick search of one of the older pi machines indicate it has a Samsung K4P4G324EB memory chip. That is organized as 128M x 32 bit. So the most the processor can get in one cycle is 32 bits of data. It likely has 4 individual write lines, one for each byte, to ...

I have a pi2 mining moon coins, no I don't expect it to actually return money but it is running on all 4 cores. I use multipool and get about 500-600 moon coins every 3 days or so. I run some mining stuff, just for the fun of it. I have 4 of the Antminer U2 units and 3 of the Gridseed miners on an older pi. After about a year, I think it has returned a bit less than $50. Re: RPi 2 Hangs / locks up

Turbo mode is off and it is only a single thread so the cpu doesn't run warm, presently at 40C as I do have a heatsink on it. (just because it looks cool). Rerunning the tests again, this time under clocking the system to 800 MHz so won't know for a couple of days unless it fails early.
