Has anyone got a good (e.g cheap) source for a 26 way female PCB socket.
I'm talking about one that;s used on things like the pico board http://www.piborg.org/picoborg
and not a ribbon cable type one.

Simon

One thing I really hate is when someone says they want something that is "cheap", which is no use without a target price or what you want to be cheaper than.simplesi wrote:Has anyone got a good (e.g cheap) source for a 26 way female PCB socket.
Most distributors Farnell.RS/CPC/Rapid/Arroiw and many others have hundreds of similar parts
I personally use the 3M 8526-4500PL
http://uk.farnell.com/3m/8526-4500pl/socket-pcb-26way-2row/dp/9138650?Ntt=8526-4500PL
Cheaper from CPC
http://cpc.farnell.com/3m/8526-4500pl/s ... tt=CN12879
They also have plenty of PCB data connectors on 2.54mm or 0.1 inch pitch double row, like the one on that board.
I suggest you have a look for what you want as also just going for cheapest may also find a connector that falls apart at a moments notice or has other problems.
There is cheap and cheap within specifications for usage requirements

It depends on how many you want to buy.
Oh, I've missed our little disucssions so much
Let me explain....
A few suppliers are now selling little add-on PCB boards for about £5 which is a lot "cheaper" than the original £10 ones.
But for a "cheap" project even £5 isn't "cheap" enough so me and a mate of mine thought is we could get hold of a "cheap" 26 way connector, then we could solder it to a "cheap" piece of veroboard clone and make "very cheap" expansion boards
My basic Robot controller consists of 1xULN2003 connected to the RPi by 3 wires and to battery and 2 motors.
Now at the moment, the "cheapest" way I get this connected is via a breadboard and some jumper wires - but this costs about £2 at the moment (because I'm using upmarket breadboards!) but the main problem is anchoring it to an uncased RPi (Because who'd want to waste money on a case!)
But, if I could get hold of a "cheap" 26 way connector then I could manufacture these for a total cost of say 99p and that would be "cheap"
And I could make other things as Traffic Light LED arrays or an electronic die
And they could just plug into my RPi
So in answer to the question - "cheap" would be <50p if possible.
Thanks for the links BTW
regards
Simon

Buy them in 1000 off qty or more then you can get that sort of price.
Look at making PCBs in large panels and different connectors, do a LOT of research on suitable connectors on a LOT of sites, and even look at stackable connectors to make a 26 way connector.
50p target is only really possible in large quantities.

You're not trying hard enough
How about 26p each?

Lost track of the best buy.
I'd buy single row headers and place them side by side.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-pcs-Single- ... 1157387094
10 to 15 13-pin headers (how good are your snaps) to give 5 to 7 headers for £1.72 (P&P included).

Why not use these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330863957616
They fit exactly over a pin header on the Pi and when you cut them in half you can solder the cut off end to any board you like.
Let's see: you get 40 wires, cut them in half so that makes 80, then divide by three (quantity for one product) so you can make 26 products (with two wires to spare for emergencies).
The wires cost $2.84, divided by 26 makes $0.11 per board. I don't know how many 'p' that is, but probably less

The ribbon cable idea doesn't meet the spec I'm afraid
And I realise you can get anything cheap if prepared to await the slow boat from China

By the way, the slow boat to China is now air freight. My stuff typically has taken less than 14 days (order to receipt). Depends on when the carrier has space on the plane.

How about these :

OK, they are in Thailand, but the price is good - 18pence each including postage, for 20 off.

Go for it! The price is excellent.
I've only failed to receive 1 (ONE) package from Asia (value £3.16). The eBay seller returned my money without quibble once I complained. The other items from that order arrived OK.
I ordered those thaishop ones on the 13th, and they arrived a couple of days ago. Seem reasonable enough quality, too, though I haven't used them yet...
note: I may or may not know what I'm talking about...

I also have an order on the way from thaishop - could you please measure the height of the body for me?
Cheers,
