I used apt-get XBMC to install it onto my raspberry pi squeeze installed how do I get it to work from here? very new to this

Do you just want XBMC or do you still want to retain a multi-purpose OS? A lot of people install Raspbmc, OpenELEC or Xbian for a ready to use XBMC install.
If you still wanted a fully functional Raspbrian install these won't be ideal for you though.
