It hang at " creating ext3 file system for / in partition #3 of MMC/SD card #1 (mmcbiko)....."
Any help please

how big is your sd card ?

the debian rpi_installer_08-19-12 uses an quite old kernel witch not support cards bigger then allmost 16GB. tested here .

how big is your sd card ?

It is only 8GB
Any other steps that I missed?

Are you trying to install on a 512 Mbyte RPi? As others have mentioned this installer is rather old. Its firmware probably does not support the larger RAM chip that is on the 512 RPis.

Suggest you try the conventional method of writing a complete image to the SD card. Start with the latest Raspian wheezy on the 'Download' page.
