Well as on the front page, RS Components and Premier Farnell/element14 now have stock of the Model A

One Pi is enough for me at the moment, but when my robot's finished I will be getting one as the power consumption is 1/3 of the model B!

I wonder if this will also bring the possibility of usb device mode (OTG) ?
AIUI the usb hub chip of the model B prevented that.

AFAIK OTG and Device mode are different things , and
there are some traces missing to create a valid OTG port.

Looking at the Farnell site, the A is £19.13 + £3.83 vat (£22.96) and the B is £26.78 + £5.36 vat (£32.14). a difference of £7.65 (£9.18)

I got mine today. I would have bought one even if there was no price differential, for the power saving. It's been running all afternoon and evening, in a case with a wi-fi dongle in the one USB port, and it's running cool where a model B doing the same thing was noticeably warm.

For a small robotics project where it will run off batteries, and all that's needed is wi-fi and the gpio, the model A is well suited.

I am in New Zealand, and can't wait to get a Model A to play with.

I have a spare Nano USB WiFi unit (they are cheap anyway), but the only real downside for me is that I run Raspbian, and I always run headless, so my first-world problem is having to plug a screen and keyboard in the get the WiFi working :-P

I didn't think about them running cooler compared to the B.

Fiberglass strands on the edge of my new Model A PCB. Anyone else have a board with a similar rough edge. Not a problem for me, and easily fixed but may be an issue with these ending up in schools and being handled by kids. Tiny fiberglass strands can be an irritant.

Ordered the Model A yesterday evening and was delivered at midday today so very impressed with the service from Farnell.

Nowhere near as rough as that, but I did note that the edges of my boards were badly finished.

Dont worry, the the USB-TTL adapter that uses the gpio ports and usb into your PC, works beautifully

Get the B, there is no Model C on the horizon.
