Hexxeh image doesn't boot

Hi,

I downloaded the r3 Hexxeh image from here

I copied it with w32diskimager on 4GB SD card. This SD card works 100% ok with official Raspian os. But if I copy Hexxeh r3 with no errors it doesn't boot. No yellow lamp flickering. If I put RPI to TV via HDMI absolutly nothing comes up. If I put SD card to PC I can see and open the boot partition.

So, what's the matter with Hexxeh image?

Some background for you: I'm looking for a very small os without X server, browser and the whole stuff. Just bash and wifi/ethernet stuff. Which image fits the most?

It is by default a Command line Distro, but ethernet and wpa_supplicant (wireless) both included.

thank you very much for the information. But: I like apt a lot. I have no knowledge about Arch LX packet manager...

It wasn't booting, too???!!! I wrote this image with dd on working SD card as described. If I start RPi up with this card nothing - in words nothing - happens.

What did I do wrong?

Raspbian can be booted to Cli, you do net need to have the LXDE GUI, it can be removed via apt-get..

booting to CLI is my first choice. I don't auto boot any X window manager. And I don't want to install the full bloated Raspian and then deinstall all of the unwanted packages actually. But if I have to do so....

Other way it to learn Arch LX aka packet manager. But it seems that file strukture is different from Debian style strukture. Am I right? Since years I'm on Ubuntu/Debian os. So I could be hard to learn Arch LX ??!! But if I have to do so (part II)....

But I don't know why minimal images don't boot on my RPi...

If you are using a 512 Mbyte RPi you must have a firmware later than about October 2012 (I don't know the exact date.) The larger RAM chip on the 512 versions is not supported (= won't work) with earlier firmwares. I don't know the age of hexxeh r3 but the filename of raspbian_wheezy_20120608.img.7z which is downloadable from http://www.linuxsystems.it/2012/06/rasp ... mal-image/ suggests it was put together in June 2012 which was months before a firmware for 512 Mbyte RPis was in circulation.

Update. I looked at the page given above for hexxeh r3 and noticed:

thank you for this information. I didn't thought about this fact. Yesterday I got a minimal Image to work:

Ok, this image is dated july of 2012. But after installtion/update/ugrade I did rpi-update by Hexxeh:

So I hope to get the latest stuff with his update script. I'm just too lazy to rebuild a fully bloated Rapian through deinstallations...
