Anyone got any recommendations for SSD's?

That forum thread is nearly 2 years old.

My point is that there are many issues with regards using SSD. Things I hadn't begun to consider. What's your point aTao?

Moore's Law is the problem.
Noob is not derogatory the noob is just the lower end of the noob--geek spectrum being a noob is just your first step towards being an uber-geek
If you find a solution please post it in the wiki the forum dies too quick

I dont see what this has to do with Riscos?

The RPi is probably frozen in time but any thing external (periferal) will be subject to Moore's Law and therefore the chances of an old forum post 2 years down the road has a high probability of having some degree of obcelecence.
It was just a comment pointing out that elapsed time is the issue.
Even the RPi has doubled it's memory in 6 months.

The scandal , I interpret, is the way in which SSD's are addressed. Theoretically, I think, LBA capable computers should be able to address an SSD's storage without translation - in other words 'raw'. Is that now the case or am I simply wrong?

Looks very much like you are warning people off a particular model or even manufacturer. I dont consider quoting a 2 year old "scandal" is particularly relevant.

It wasn't my intention to go scaremongering, but I see how that could be construed. No, what I'm really after is a problem free drive with good longevity. I don't need the fastest thing under the sun but I do need something that's not going to blink out on me along with the day's work. I also dislike manufacturers overzealous claims concerning storage capacity. We've always lost a tad to formatting but then to say 1 TB is a billion bytes is the sort of thing one expects from an accountancy firm rather than a computer peripheral manufacturer.
RaTTuS, you've got one working.. what make and model is it please? If I see one then I'll know that it should work. 2 out of 3 hard drives have been rejected by HFormat and the one that wasn't rejected makes more noise than a furry's convention.

http://www.suntekstore.com/goods-100102 ... c_ssd.html
is exactly the one I got.
I dont know how long it will last - but seem to be fine so far
my system has been up for 66days
it does need to be powered via a usb Y cable ...
actually
I thought I had it conencted to my 512MB RPi but it is a 256MB one...
I have the internals of
http://www.amazon.co.uk/DIGIFLEX-Drive- ... 002UZO07C/
connected to my PIbow'ed 256MB Rpi with one half of the Y cable [the data one] and a usb hub [for power]
the Hub has a 2A PSU to supply power to the RPi and the SSD and mouse / keyboard
