Just for fun, I've put up some code which monitors activity on a local network and plots pretty (?) graphs of the results ...
The code itself it at https://github.com/IanHarvey/net-monitor (or simply git clone git://github.com/IanHarvey/net-monitor.git). Please feel free to use it as a source of useful Python bits and bobs for your own stuff (it's got a ping utility, ARP lookup code, and general graph plotting code).
Cheers

This will be great in our house. Between the PC, iPad, 2 x iPhones, XBOX and Raspberry Pi I'll be able to see who really is chewing up the broadband
