USB device faliures

I recently got a pi, and I have been trying to use my usb keyboard and mouse, but I have a strange problem where any usb device plugged into the pi will spontaneously stop working between 30 seconds and 2 minutes after I plug it in. The devices are all rated under 500 ma and I am using an apple iPad charger rated 2.1 amps. Also I have an 8 gb sd card with raspbian. Please help

Same here. Have a 256MB pi that works great. Just got a 512MB one. Same exact hardware plugged in and it stops working. Will work for a time, but as soon as the processor gets a load it locks up.

Please make sure you are using the latest version of the distro. Also, you may need to force the device to use a particular USB speed - information on the Wiki about that I think - or there is the USB Redux thread here.

Well, I found a solution. My solution involves putting a fan over the pi to cool it off. Problem solved!

That would imply there is something wrong with the Raspi...it should never overheat in this way.

Does this suggest you are drawing too much current through it ?
