There's a post from Eben on the front page about what we're doing, with a link to the new forum in beta. We need you to come and test it for us – so please post, PM each other and have a poke around the archives. Please note that anything posted there in the next few days, before we do the switchover, WILL NOT BE SAVED – for now it's just a sandbox for testing.
Please also take this opportunity to save any PMs from the current forum that you want to keep – we won't be porting those over.
Come and help us beta test the new forum

works for me. Tried searching for my posts, previewing a post, posting it, and editing what I posted. Works as expected. But it didn't ask me to do any arithmetic!
Amen to that!

Can the links be included at the top for the wiki and FAQ etc? I find them very useful.
4+5 - even I can do that one.

That's great, don't suppose you are working on an Android app for the forum too?

I much prefer the old forum software. I assume I am in a small minority.
It is very useful to hover my mouse over the icons to see the first few lines of a post without going to the bother of opening every single topic. Does anybody else miss this in phpBB? Is there any way to enable this on phpBB?

Tapatalk works fine with phpBB3. I have it installed and running.
I've asked this in the main posting but not yet seen a reply.
To whom and by what method should we report misconfiguration or vulnerabllities to?
I *really* don't want to just post stuff on here...

Just figured I'd add my two cents here on the phpBB version of the site. First off, kudo's to Eben on the "roll your own" database port script, those are not always the easiest to get your head around even if your accustomed to working with PHP and SQL.
Nice to see you moving from a Wordpress plugin forum to a dedicated forum script, phpBB will give you some of the functionality you may require for what the site here could grow into.
From a quick look around it looks like the port of the database worked as designed to get the forum database transferred over with no glitches that were immediately apparent.
The forums style is a good transition from what you had with the Wordpress plugin so the members here should have no major complaints with switching over to the new one.
phpBB is a good choice for a basic forum script and you can add quite a bit of higher end functionality via modifications, but just like with all scripts used for what could end up being high traffic sites, this does come with a cautionary warning.
As a "rule of thumb" in forum planning and building, typically the more addons, modifications and hacks you add outside of the main script to gain more functionality, the slower your site will become. So I would advise choosing your modifications carefully with this script, since you do have the potential here for some high traffic times.
I saw Tapatalk mentioned here specifically, so though this is actually an option for phpBB with a bit of work involved, the modification for phpBB has gone through a bit of controversy at phpBB so it may not be your best bet for a mobile app. It may be another case of "rolling your own" as a best option.
All in all though a good move in my opinion anyway to go to a dedicated forum script.

For mouseover for topic text I'd suggest one of the following considering the one above is ABD(Abandoned).

I'm missing my "Watched Topics" and "Subscriptions". Will I have to port them manually?

If you klick the link "View new posts" the result is not sorted by sections as it is here in the old forum. I would be missing that.

As above post. Sections on 'view new posts' are quite useful. Apart form that I'm liking it and its' increased speed.

Don't think so - you should just be able to click on the little red thing with an envelope to the far right of where it says "Logged in as <name>" at the top of the page. It's pretty obvious if you have any PMs in that folder from the page we're on now - if you have any there will be a number showing how many unread PMs you have on the red button by the envelope.

We could continue to use Gravatar, but because most people here don't like to use it we won't be doing that. Shouldn't take you a minute to set your avatar up, but don't do it now because we won't be saving anything on the new forum done between the time the first post in this thread went up and the time we make it live - it's just for testing for now.
