Error -110

When I plug the power into my Raspberry Pi, it starts up and it goes into this loop of saying error -110 and it says the error has to do with my SD card. after about 45 seconds of this it says it times out and boots. Everything seems to work fine once this is all said and done. Is this a serious problem? Do I need to buy a different SD card? I have a Patriot micro SD card(4GB) in a Patriot adapter. It's a class 4.

did that. Doesn't show the error. Now my mouse doesn't work. It's a Basic Optical Mouse made by Microsoft

no he means wheezy - the pi debian world seems to be moving there now - I have both squeeze and wheezy running on two of mine and wheezy seems to be less fickle

So ideas that as tried wheezy, doesn't work, going back to squeeze.

No, I meant I tried the update. I am using Wheezy now. Only problem I have with it is that the screen goes black when I log out of the GUI. Or try to reboot from the LX Terminal in the GUI How do I fix this?

This appears to be a bug in the latest updated wheezy, as it is reported by more running updated wheezy.
I assume it will be fixed quickly.

I had the -110 error with my first SD card (8gig C6 Toshiba) last weekend. I'd powered the RPi through a cheap micro USB lead from an old mains powered USB1 hub. Searching the forums for "110" resulted in a couple of posts commenting about voltage drop over cheap cables, so I tried a Nokia USB charger cable, courtesy of the wife. Success, booted OK. I tried again and it worked fine so I resized the partitions to use the whole card. RPi still worked on Monday so I put a multimeter across TP1 TP2. The Nokia cable read 4.78V. Trying the cheap cable gave 4.45V (i.e. not enough) but wierdly the RPi booted fine.

So, my advice is borrow a 'quality' cable, boot the RPi, resize the partitions and then try again with the original cable

That's not a problem anymore. I'm using wheezy and I don't get that error. Also, I'm using an HP Tablet Charger. I don't know what "quality" is supposed to be mean but it's definitely not some jenk cable.

My advice is not to use the low-quality cable again. If you are running with an out of spec voltage, you are asking for trouble.

I agree completely, I took the voltage readings to confirm to myself that the cable was to blame originally. Its been relegated to the "old USB cables" bin now. I did find it strange that the Pi booted with it after the card had been "proved good" to it.

Same -110 error here. Could'nt tell the quality of my mini usb cable but all and all: It seems a weird choice to me using a mini USB connector on a plug which has to deliver 700mA minimum. Searching for a solution on this error I found on the internet that this combination is not easy to comply to.

The HP Tablet charger that I'm using reads 5.3V and 2a. I don't think that's the problem. Am I wrong?

Just thought I'd reply on this. I managed to solve the -110 error by shortening the USB cable. Well... Shortening... I split the cable 2cm after the mini USB plug an soldered a normal female plug on there to receive 5v from my 12.5w adapter. Now everything works.
