Rpi - additional DHL expences ( from UK to Croatia )

Hello all,
my excitement was blown when I got a charge from DHL for handling purposes and taxes.
RS components sent Rpi B model value 26.55GBP over DHL to Croatia.

Here is the interesting additional costs:::

Customs guaranty ?!?! 30kn (3 GBP)
DHL operational expenses 100kn (10 GBP)
then 25% of state taxes (3 GBP)
For the end some more taxes 62 kn (6 GBP)

So final additional expenses are around 230kn or 23 GBP
To conclude DHL shipping was as much as Rpi price

Of course this would not happen if RS sent it over as standard mail (standard intr. Royal mail rules).
One thing I have to mention is that it was in Croatia (sent from UK) in 3 working days, but this doesn't make it less annoying.

Still, I'll enjoy Rpi.

That's terrible. Does anyone know if other people have had experiences like this?

There's nothing RS can do about the taxes, but there's no mention of the extra DHL charge on their website:

We are using 2 couriers, Parcelforce for delivery to all UK customers, and DHL for deliveries to all non-UK customers. Goods are sent out overnight, aiming to be with you as soon as possible. Taxes & Duty will be applied where applicable, and is the responsibility of the customer at the point of delivery. Please note that these charges are not highlighted at the time of order.

So this might be worth taking this up with them. My Pi is supposed to ship in ~9 weeks, and I think I'll email RS now...

Well, I think that DHL charge some "handling and customs charges" for taking the package out of customs. Here in Ecuador happens in the same way. Mi RPi is in customs from Monday, and DHL is charging me "an estimate value of USD. 18.00" for getting the package into the country. May be the government mail will be cheaper and faster for a little package like the Pi.

Im not against DHL. They give the best service, but as a private company, they have to pay their employees

M8 if you have this much additional expences in Croatia, what can I expect in Bosnia, all taxes, DHL costs, I could buy one more RPi for money DHL will take. Im not excited any more, I have to wait 10 weeks untill dispatch + delivery time and pay this much . I order charger, case and RPi from RS and pay 44.94 € for now.

I got my Rpi today with a nice DHL fee, or should I say STEAL. I'm from Croatia and total shipping and handling came to 230kn converted to $ equals to around 38$. Almost the price of Rpi with shipping.

Thats a pure steal simple, if it was sent through RoyalMail the customs would maybe just charge tax on it which is 25% of the total value and it would be substantialy smaller total expense.

ON THE HIGH NOTE..I really love my Rpi. It is smaller then expected, awesome quality of circuit printing and can't wait to "play" with its capabilities

Chile, but a friend got the same email, but only for about 30usd, so i don't really understand how this process works...

I don't know what i have to do now, i don't want to pay that (I'm thinking about it.), and idk if i can get my money back, this is a really annoying process.

We are having the same problem here in South Africa! DHL is seemingly trying to line their own pockets or something. The DHL 'disbursement' fees here range anywhere from 0 USD to ~35 USD! And that excludes the added TAX we are all more than happy to pay. Some people even went so far as to abandon their package at DHL as the fees are higher than the Pi itself!

OK I understand DHL is not the same as Royal Mail but if I pay on eBay for some item shipping from UK not much than 5 to 8£ I don't see why they want to bill like 20£ or more for RPi.Just can't wait to see how much will I have to pay.Btw I pay for my RPi with credit card if I want refund what do I have to do and how can I have my money back?

I'm from Brazil and I also had to pay around $50 ( $25 of handling fee and the rest is taxes) to DHL on the act of delivery. Unbelievable!
Please stop sending it using DHL!
