Home Computer Automation

I'm currently working on a home computer automation system.

I am referring to computer automation tasks, not tasks like opening curtains at specified times.

i.e.
Move files from one directory on one server to another.
Compress and archive files.
Re-encode video files.

The beauty of all this is that it will also run on full PCs also as it is all being coded in Perl. The Raspberry PI may be able to take some of the load of my main computer (and use less power) for the more intensive tasks.
