we'll be porting DirectFB to the device as soon as we've got one of those.

Well we don't actually have any beta boards except the couple already brought up and no alphas. If some come spare I am sure you will be considered, given what you do.

Fantastic, I was planning to port directfb to raspberry pi once I get one.. incredibly better to have people from directfb working on it.

I'm quit the directfb n00b so please fill me in here.

GTK, QT and enlightenment 17 run on directfb. This would make running a X-server pretty much redundant right. Enlightenment would take care of the window management, GTK or QT would take care of all the decoration inside the window. Unless the app would specifically depend on X could you not save allot of memory by running everything ontop op directfb rather then X, right?

P.s. does directfb also have opengl ES 2.0?

I'm very glad to hear DirectFB is being ported to the Raspi, the project I have in mind would ideally not use X11, so this would be perfect!

Another vote for DirectFB+OpenGL ES here.

I want SDL apps to use less CPU updating the screen.

Look for -- DirectFB on Raspberry PI at 1280x800 with Compositor and Pinguin App at 45 frames per second!

OpenGL ES 2 acceleration is working.
