Micro-USB Charger

I have a Micro-USB wall charger that outputs 5.1V / 850mA.  I know the specs say a 5v charger that outputs 700mA.  Is this charger too much, or is that just the maximum it will output?

That is just the maximum it can output – the RPi will just take as many as it needs. You will need to be careful as to what other peripherals you are using though to make sure they don't require too much power.

This really really really needs adding to the FAQ right near the top as so many people are asking, it and it is a very sensible question and frequent question which has no obvious answer. (And at the same time the comment about 4 AA batteries either be removed or 'with an appropriate voltage regulator' added).

Bottom line: the voltage of the charger should be close to 5V (5.1V is ok), the current should be at least 700mA but you can go as high as you like.
