Gmenu2x, Neo Geo emulation & Frontier

Hello all,

as you will know, last week I sucessfully ported Elite 2: Frontier to work on the Pi.

Well, now I present you an app launcher: gmenu2x, and the Neo Geo emulator gneogeo:

I will release the SD image (of course with no illegal roms in it), but first I'd rather have the David Braben approval to distribute Frontier, despite the fact this port is based on glfrontier, that is publicly available all over the internet.

The Neo*Geo is my favorite arcade system (I own about 4 boards, 1 machine, and a drawer full of carts). I'm working to get it running properly on AdvanceMAME, but this is very cool news to see it working here.

So I got gneogeo compiled and running (haven't tested any games yet). It does seem to crash on exit so far, but I think that's because I havent tweaked my config yet. Looking forward to trying some Metal Slug and KOF tomorrow and seeing how the performance is.

If you successfully ported the Gmenu2x to the Rpi that means we can also install the other emulators that work with the GP2X maybe?

Been playing King of Fighters 98 on ngeo compiled for the Raspberry Pi. Running a lot smoother than my AdvanceMAME compile. I'll post the binaries later tonight once I upload them to my host.

If you just want emulation without the front end, I put up a post on my own blog with the binaries.

I don't want to steal JoJo's thunder, as I REALLY want a nice frontend, but this should work for now.

Any news on this? Sorry to bump, but i was a huge fan of Frontier, spent many of my teenage years playing it on my Amiga 600 and then later my Second PC (my first one didnt have a floating point co-processor and wouldn't run it, it was a 286PC upgraded with a 386 chip though)

I have managed to compile glFrontier but performance was pretty terrible, so was wondering what changes where made or porting for the GPU occurred to boost performance.

It would certainly be really nice to get this classic up and operating in some capacity

I second that, I remember having persuading my parents to pay £50 to have my Atari ST memory upgraded to 1mb just to play Frontier Elite 2 good times!

Ditto. First discovered Elite on my Commodore 64 and was blown away. When I discovered there was a sequel, years later, I lost a *lot* of time on my Amiga 500.

I'm happy to see that there's still such a devoted following.

I was able to build glfrontier however I cannot start it because it gives me the following error.

video mode set failed : couldn't find matching GLX visual

This is a little odd because I did manage to build it previously and run it (though yes performance was not great)

I am just wondering if anyone else has had any success with this? or how it was done in the youtube video, since performance appears reasonable. Is there any source for it?
