In the coming weeks there'll also be a more tightly-focused 'how to get started' book comprising the first six chapters, dubbed Meet the Raspberry Pi. That one is eBook-only, and again will be launched in Kindle, ePub and PDF formats.
As for the launch dates, they're placeholders - the book will hopefully be out significantly in advance of the supposed October launch. Oh, and the typos (programmes instead of programs, as you highlight - which, by the way, isn't really a generational thing, but has been common parlance for decades) aren't mine - I don't actually know who wrote the synopsis on Amazon.
Well, that's what I get for reading the earlier posts a month ago and then not reviewing them in detail, relying on Amazon to make things clear as mud with their generic placeholder! Obviously, this is certainly due to some autobot's evil machinations - never trust an autobot farther than you can throw it ... which will have to be virtually, in this case, since Amazon doesn't seem to have a single human-answered phone number, much less a physical presence outside its sweatshop (literally, they get to over 110F) distribution centers
Will the ePub and PDF versions be encrypted, with each having a unique key? I've never had to deal with that since I generally just go with whatever the distributors use in their cross-platform apps. Is it possible to keep code sections unencrypted and copy-pastable so that students will be able to accurately use longer chunks in their programs? Or, will the examples be downloadable from a web site? I realize it's a good idea for students to type code in for the muscle memory effect, but, those of us who can already type at 200+ wpm would appreciate the shortcut (now everyone knows why my posts are 200,000+ words long
).Heck, I could have written the Guide months ago, if I didn't waste so much time making these posts ... hmmm, I think your Guide needs a companion 3-D graphics volume ... hey, that's exactly what I've been writing code about the last couple of months - so, I've almost got my examples for that book done! Now all I have to do is explain how it all works ... geez, that's gonna be the hard part - and readers are gonna want it formatted with lots of helpful diagrams, photos, etc.? This author stuff is harder than it looks!
