New version of the Pi? (got one)

Hi,
i've just got my new Raspberry Pi and it's diferent from my former one.
Is this the "new" build or version or just an upgrade?

Excellent - they're in the wild now!

Pete would like me to say that we are not *calling* them mounting points, because he has horrible images of people screwing stuff into them tightly and compressing the PCB until it breaks. Of course, you should feel free to *use* them as mounting points - just be judicious how much pressure you put on the surrounds.

Eben will be posting about the changes you'll be seeing on more recent boards soon. It's really good fun for us watching them arrive and confuse you guys.

If you really wanted to confuse you could have called this the Model "C"

Why is P2 missing connector pins isn't this where the digital camera interface goes??

Also has the LAN overheating problem been fixed with this rev??

@redhawk P2 is jtag. There are a few pics with connectors labeled http://elinux.org/RPi_Hardware

S5 is the camera CSI-2 connector. P2 is JTAG, not much use for most mortals.

The extra pin holes near P1 look interesting...am I correct in thinking we have some extra goodies from those extended pins...I2S...perhaps?
They just happen to sit where the ID resistors used to be, R3-R10 (GPIO28 to GPIO31).

The USB polyfuses also appear to be relocated/removed. And looks like new test point added by the power input, or something.

Liz & Eben mentioned elsewhere that the two USB port polyfuses would been removed completely. Before this rev some boards have shown up with polyfuses replaced with 0 ohm links.

There are no improvements on perfection...

Flattering but that does not answer my question.

From a philosophical standpoint perfection is the achievement of defined goals - so you actually can improve on perfection by better achieving those goals or achieving additional ones, which may be the case here.

Personally I prefer adequate to perfect as perfect often implies wasted effort.

So apart from the hole, what am I missing out on?

it's not a mounting hole - just just a hole ;-p
but maybe you can put it in your pocket ?

So far it looks to me that there are a few smaller changes rather than a radical redesign, which to be fair is probably less annoying to those who have Rev1 boards.

Although, the extra pin holes sure look inviting (odd pin 1 is on the other side to pin 1 of P1...). The pinholes next to the power supply look interesting too, power for the camera module maybe or test points (or bypass of the regulator - less likely).

I'm sure the quadcore cpu they've hidden under the (quad stacked 4x256Mb) 1Gb ram will please most.

I also sense there is some other good news on it in general though.

I'm going to see if I can get my first edition signed.

I note that new logos advise us not to throw our Pi's away and that there is an 'FCC' logo that actually stands for Futuristic Centi-Core (quad cores are so 2011).

So lonely it has turned yellow (mine are black). It is worried that the hole may swallow it.

Surely there'll be a reduction in price now as less components are used ?

That reduction is cancelled out by the gilt edging.

One of the rather high-end network video players beloved of AV types has just such a hole, and it extends through the rather nice aluminium case. They're designed to be just mounted directly to a wall ...

Nail gun would do the job nicely!

Somebody, presumably an admin, has substituted OP's original image with a slightly gimped version. So presumably we are not to talk about that particular silkscreen detail. Consequently, I shall restrict my silkscreen comments to a congratulation on fixing the "10M" problem with the lan speed led. Without wishing to sound overly pedantic, that was quite literally the most infuriating design error possible
