Here is the sad news...
"USB Power Output Max continuous: 2W @5V"
That equates to 400mA maximum continuous current. You might be able to get away with it if you hacked the 3v3 regulator for a more efficient regulator, but you would never be able to let the fire die down.

the model A might be able to cope with that ?
perhaps it could be used alongside a rehargable battery pack (like the iphone has)
Ahhh.... the great outdoors.... Fresh air, birdsong, starry skies and ARM based computing - blissss

Time for a brass, wood case and meld one of those into to it. The ultimate steampunk RasPi! Running on twigs!

I am going to make a similar, but more romantic thermoelectric generator, using a few candles instead of wood. Light the candles, wait for it to heat up a little, start Pi, Watch movie with girl
My design calls for 2 peltiers, 2 discarded heatpipe CPU coolers and cheep DC/DC circuit(s) from battery powered emergency mobile phone chargers, heat-spreader block on the hot side off the peltiers, and aluminium profile processor coolers to capture the energy from the flames.
The goal is to make it passive cooled, so no fans.
To accomplish this i will mount the heatpipe coolers in a V shape so convection will take care of the air flow. The reason for not putting the heatpipes horizontally is that they will want to be assisted by gravity to return the working medium to the heat source.
The tricky bit will be making the custom triangular heat spreader. I am thinking of casting that peace out of Silver scrap that my brother keeps buying cheep at auctions
The result will be more art than science, but that is okay .
I have all the bits and peaces i need, now i just have to putt it all together.
Might take me a while to get up and actually do it...

I am also looking into this. I found a modular wood stove Thermoelectric (TEG) power generator here:
http://www.thermoelectric-generator.com ... r_sale.htm
Since I have a wood stove, I am inquiring at how much this unit is and hope to use the TEG to provide lighting in my basement AND the raspberry pi. I might be able to use the pi to monitor the battery charge level so that the raspberry pi makes the decision to switch from the TEG power and regular home power. I could also use the raspberry pi to do other things as well such as provide home security with the yet to come camera board.
This is so exciting!
