Has anyone tried to buy/make a usb cable with an integrated on/off switch?
I've found this : http://coolpc.com/Coolerguys-USB-OnOff- ... VRZPAM.htm but trying to get it delivered to the UK is proving a problem.
Does anyone know of a UK supplier of such a cable (it would save having to unplugging the usb power cable out all the time)?

I would love one with an IR switch and remote, so I can reboot raspberry from a remote control. If anybody spots one please post.

Currently £14.99 at Asda, but a different make/model (badged as "STATUS"). I got 2 sets when they were on offer at a fiver a box of three with remote for 4 units. If they ever drop to that silly price again I`m having 2 more. Gave my brother 2 of the units and the spare remote so I use all four with one remote now. Fantastic idea they are and my RPi works off onr of them. They are worth £14.99 of anyones money, I`m just a cheapskate waiting for the fiver offer again.
EDIT: EBay has the same model as mine listed right down to £9.99

Thanks all. I had looked at these in various stores recently but the ones I saw were all RF not IR. I prefer IR as I have line of sight to the socket and can program it on an existing remote.
However following your links I found this which is much better for my purposes.

Darn I do like this one - another £20 to squeeze past the financial controller....
That's a really good idea. If you know how to solder or know someone who can, building one would be pretty trivial.

I've made one of these just this minute from an old USB iPAQ Hotsync/Charging Cable I found in the loft with a switch that changes between data and charging. I've just cut the end off and replaced it with a Micro USB one.
There are 5 wires inside, I've cut off the 3 that relate to "hotsync" and just used the red and black ones for the power. So when I switch it to hotsync the Pi turns off
I've just bodged it together for now so it's about 3 meters long lol, but I intend to cut it down to a shorter length and tidy up the join at some point. It's quality because it just happens to have a red led on it when it's off (in hotsync) and a green one on it when it's on (in charging)
Works really well using an old 5v 1A USB mains plug that I got with my HTC Touch Pro 2
