Hi,
I am researching on how to get the satellite reciever connected to pc for live stream.
Tried so many sites but couldnt get any positive answer.
Dont want to invest in costly H/w for 2000$.
Can some one guide me .. We have HDMI and RCA Audio/VIdeo output.
Now the question is to get it into the pc and stream it live
Any help
need hardware to interface pc or rasp to Satellite reciever

Well , it WILL be costly.
The cheapest way is to use a Windows (!) box with a so called USB "Capture card" .
Where I live , they are sold as "Rescue your old Video Casettes !" kits. (~ 40 $)
I suppose you are being served MUCH better by an advanced device (h.264 digitizer) - cost starting about 99 $.
Then there are the elgato devices ("netstream") , 150$- 200$ - I suppose there are also products of competitors.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.

I have no idea about Linux support.
As far i can see , V4L is hard to get running on the RPi.
So yes , my suggestion is still a Windows box.
For Linux tips/ideas you have to ask someone with more experience.

Easy to get the data.. playing it on HDMI is another issue.
Use mumuDVB or if you can get working hts. This will allow streaming of the data out over a network
Connect to a USB TechoTrend DVB-S (S2400 I use on other devices, works almost out the box once you get the firmware off the net... cost is £28)

Well, there's always the Slingbox:
http://www.slingbox.com/
Connects to your receiver, then transmits over a LAN or the web depending on what you need it for...
As inexpensive as deep-fried sticks of potatoes...

Try VDR from Klaus schmiddinger.
Works with almost all pc cards for dvb(s-t-c-s2) reception.
Linux based as well.
