Hi, I'm based in Southampton, UK, and looking for other people in the area with an interest in the Raspberry Pi with a view to setting up a local interest group. I'm also looking into the possibility of setting up a 'Raspberry Jam' if there's sufficient interest. For those of you on Facebook, I've also set up a page there (search for 'raspberry pi southampton' - it's the one with the raspberry-on-QR-code picture)
Hope to hear from someone soon. Cheers!

Further to the above, the address of the Facebook page is

I've also put up a couple of polls to see who knows what and where interested people are. Please express any interest accordingly.
Thanks

Think I've fixed it - I had limited the page to UK users, not realising that it would stop the page being viewed at all if you weren't logged in. You'll probably need to be logged in to post though, not sure there's any way round that.

I live about 20 miles away (just North of Winchester). I'd be interested in any events.

I am retired and live on the Western Edge of Winchester. I would be interested in joining a local group on setting up a new Pi. I do not drive so attending meetings is difficult. My main interest is primarily in making a small, low cost terminal, easy to learn (and to use) for new users of the internet. I am hoping for a system solely for internet access for disabled or house bound senior citizens that needs minimum updating by the users.. I have a Window 7 64 Bit PC, a Vista PC, ipad3, and Android telephone. I have just received the Pi package and am waiting for a Power supply and a small keyboard to be delivered. I am not familiar with Linux, so far. I have access to Facebook Skype and Facetime (on Macs). Cheers

Another Winchester user.... Pi arrived yesterday and up and running today without any hiccups. Don't have a lot of spare time, but interested in meets if I'm free.

I'm beginning to think this should be called the Winchester Area Raspberry Pi Interest Group
Anyway, hello and welcome to all.
Now that there are a few of us here it seems appropriate to ask:
1. Do we want to meet yet?
2. If so, where and when? As almost everyone is based around Winchester it woud perhaps be more convenient to hold it near there rather than Southampton. I work in Winchester anyway so would have no trouble getting there, but would need someone with more local knowledge to suggest a venue.
3. What do we actually do if we meet? The obvious thing to do is to have a sort-of 'Pi clinic' where those who are trying to get their Pi to do something bring it along and hopefully get advice from the others, but I'm open to suggestions.
Over to you...

Another Southampton user here.
Happy to host informal Pi-jams, which have happened a couple of times already with a couple of techy mates. So far we have been playing around with opencv for robotics / astro tracking and setting up a LAMP server, plus eaccelerator for php applications, available at pi.tantric.coop.

Hi Other Winchester contacts. I don't drive nowadays and depend on taxis after dark . Bus travel after about 19.00 hours is not practicable and in the winter is unsuitable for me. Depending on numbers and requirements we could try meeting initially at my home. I live on the South-West side of Winchester just within the city limits.

Hi folks,
I am Winchester based too, and glad to make contact with local folks.
My RPi arrived last week but have only scratched around on the surface so far.
I am a UNIX man by heritage, and use Ubuntu out of choice.
I'll check out the Facebook page and look forward to meeting you folks in the flesh sometime soon.
