Merseyside User Group

Hi Folks,

I would like to start a user group for all of the Pi users/wanto be users of the R Pi. The company Im working for has a lot of great ideas for how communities can make use of the PI and its abilities alongside its development as an educational tool.

I'm based at Ellesmere Port, so just down the road on the grand scheme of things. Have VNC / SSH set up and Raspbmc on another card.

Plans are currently:

Monitoring home network and NAS units such as alarms when disk space runs low.
Media system obviously
Re-learning Linux after several years off.
Learn Python and start kids on Scratch in due course
Transcoding backed up DVDs to correct format for raspbmc

Try to get GPIO working and have the machine talking to the real world, but not sure what yet.
When camera is released, play with that.... security cam/webcam as first step, maybe something else depending on what software tools are available.

That, I think is it for now.

I'm not aware of a Merseyside RaspberryJam. There's one in Preston and Manchester.

Why not set one up? DoES Liverpool might be keen to support you and I believe Liam McDaid at North Liverpool Academy is keen to start one up as well.
