I would like to join a jam in Leeds. That is if you don't mind a 71 year young pensioner who is part of WROCC.

Great Terry, No age restrictions here, but I have no idea what WROCC is. Not that that is important. Keep watching link and when we have a handful of people we can meet and get this thing going in Leeds.

WROCC Wakefield Risc OS Computer Club. The strange thing is that I appear to be the only one that has a Raspberr Pi out of 20-30 members that come every month out of 82 total members all over the place, but that might change any time soon.

Hi All,

I'm one of the five who emailed Alan (although I'm not actually a teacher), so I thought I'd say hello.

I'm a software developer in Leeds, and I'm also on the committee of the local BCS branch (the West Yorkshire branch). Hopefully I should be able to convince a few of my coworkers to come along and provide some technical know-how if required, and I should be able to promote the event to BCS members in the area, and maybe even get a little funding if necessary.

Hopefully we can come up with something good!

I'm another of the 5. I manage North East Leeds and West Leeds City Learning Centres.

As I mentioned in the email, the North East Leeds City Learning Centre would be very interested in hosting and helping to run a Raspberry Jam in Leeds.

There's a fair few pi users at Leeds Hackspace (and we'd be happy to host an event).
We're on Mabgate Green just a couple of mins from the bus station.

Mike Cook will be attending our club the Wakefield Risc OS Computer Club on the 7th November, it starts at 7.30pm, his talk will be about connecting an Ardounio to a Raspberry Pi programming it and also connecting it to some hardware.
This will be held at the West Yorkshire Sports & Social Club, Sandal Hall Close, Sandal, Wakefield, WF2 6ER.
Upstaires, bar on the left room on the right £2 entrance fee, ask for Terry.

I'm a governor in 2 primary schols in the Skipton area and in the classroom in a third, and I'd love to get something going for our children in school or after school. I'll be talking to local colleges to see what we can do close by, but a Jam in Leeds, Bradford, Keighley or anywhere up the Aire would be great.

If you really want to get this going then the thing to do is for someone to say we will meet in this pub(or otherwise) at this date/time. Give it some publicity and off you go. Leeds Hackspace, as offered above, may be a good place to have an inaugural meeting. Apart from Leeds Hack, WYLUG meets in Leeds and then there is BradLUG. I would imagine that there will be people at most LUGs (Linux User Groups) who will have a Pi - that's certainly true of BradLUG anyway. So, a date/time/venue, some publicity and I think there will be sufficient attendees to form a group. I live in Bradford, not Leeds, otherwise I would probably have been prepared to start the ball rolling.

technobol is right. OK. Meet up in Leeds centre or gather around the hole in Bradford? (no slight on Bradford), how about we all meet at Witherspoons on Park row in Leeds, plenty of buses and near the railway station. If all agreed we just need to arrange a time and date and how to recognize one another (a piece of coloured ribbon maybe, any other suggestions).

Setting a date and location is definitely the right idea, and while the pub is tempting, I'm not sure it really lends itself to letting younger people get involved. It's probably not suitable for presenting projects, or to actually demoing the Pis either. How about we use the hackspace (provided that's still OK with them) instead?

A good point about the pubs. I was mainly trying to get the ball rolling as we seem to be dithering around and not getting anywhere. so what I'm suggesting is to just meet up somewhere and sort out what to do next and how many involved also a place to suit the majority. So to get the ball rolling I suggest we meet at Leeds Museum on the big map of Leeds on the floor as you first walk in on Saturday 24th November 2012 at 2pm, a day to remember maybe. If nobody turns up I will learn some more about the history of Leeds.

Ok, sure, I'll be there on the 24th.

In the meantime, I don't think it'd hurt to try and work out some details. I guess firstly we need to confirm that the Leeds Hackspace guys are still OK with us hosting the event there. I'll send an email to their mailing list, to double-check.

Secondly, as we've said, we need to pick a date. I think a Saturday might make sense, so we can have a decent amount of time, and nobody has to worry about rushing there after work, or staying up late on a school night! So, how about Saturday 15th December? That gives us plenty of time to get things together.

What do you reckon?

I'd be interested in a Jam in Leeds. Sonikblue's suggestion of a Saturday morning/afternoon (especially 15th December) is ideal for me, as I live in York and am reliant on public transport. The Leeds HackSpace being nearly on top of the bus station is a major plus there! :-)
