great
you try any of the other things on that page?
Ahem.
I am a serious minded individual of gravity and purpose who only has time for the most functional of pursuits. I tried Chuckie Egg for testing purposes only. Although I was satified by the outcome of the test I derived no pleasure from the exercise.
I may carry out further tests on the other pieces of leisure software you cite, but only in the interests of accumulating knowledge that may further the educational aims of the Foundation.
I shall report back in due course.

I can confirm that 'Chuckie Egg' still works. In the interests of scientific diligence I have elected to subject it to a rigourous testing program under a number of control conditions to establish the stability of the system. This may require me to check that all the levels are functioning correctly on more than one occasion which could take some time. Science is a demanding mistress.

so what's your new high score?
you'll need to at least get 100,000 to confirm it does actually work as expected

Ah - perhaps I shall delegate that responsability to my 8 year old assistant (just level 4 atm).
I can't vouch for the sound but Chuckie Egg is visually working perfectly - I just downloaded it onto a skick, plugged it in the Pi, dragged it onto the desktop, gave it a click and it just started working. I was shocked - almost too easy, think I need a lie down.
Can't be bothered with the other games on that webpage - would be interested in Zarch, Star Fighter 3000 or Repton though - worth a hunt for / porting...
good find - thanks

I have Starfighter 3000 working on the Raspberry Pi, the 32Bit compatible version that is, but it has a LOT of tearing/flickering. The same executable works smoothly on a Pandaboard ES. Now DON'T take me wrong: it's NOT slow, the Raspberry Pi moves the game very well, but the final render to screen isn't smooth.
I also have the patched version of Twinworld working, with the same tearing issues.
Of course I have 50Hz modes defined, so that's not the problem.
There's something wrong with Risc OS on the Pi regarding double buffering and/or vsync! But no one on the Risc OS Open forums seems very interesting in testing, confirming or fixing this
If it'd be Linux, I could somehow tweak backend libraries, etc, but I'm totally lost with this (otherwise AWESOME) OS inner workings.

I don't think it's a case of people not being interested. More a case of being too concerned with getting the initial teething troubles sorted and an updated release out of the door. There are only a small number of developers, most of whom are not directly connected to ROOL, so you are dependent on their good will, if you are not up to ploughing into the sources yourself.

Grauniad kind of works, but it's a bit hit and miss sometimes at reading the keypresses. May have to try some of the others. Again, purely in the interests of research. I won't enjoy it. At all.

Both a serious undertaking and a worthy sacrifice.
I can now verify that Chuckie Egg's sound is spot on.

Not to derive anybody of its kicks, but isn't it so that Chucky egg has been ported to many other platforms already, including Linux?
For a more important subject, does a RiscOS port of Manic miner and/or Jet Set Willy exist
(blasphemous I know
)

'other platforms' ?
This is Chuckie Egg comming home, man.
It's like, it's like, like moving turf from the old to the new Wembly Stadium, like Eric Clapton playing the Albert Hall or like Roast Chicken on a Sunday.

roast chucky?
Has any one got the Lander demo working on a Raspberry Pi? I'd love to have a go of that. I remember the day we discovered that on the Acorn A5000s at school. Business and Information Studies classes suffered after that.
There is a version of !Lander that works on the raspberry pi or you can run the real thing !Zarch under !ArcEm. You can get iLander from http://www.cgransden.co.uk/lander.zip or !ArcEm from http://sourceforge.net/projects/arcem/f ... .50-alpha/

Not sure about running them natively. You can run them with the Fuse Spectrum emulator available at http://www.riscos.info/packages/Section ... .html#Fuse. If you're using the official distro you can get it using !PackMan.

I have StarFighter 3000 running just fine on the official RISC OS Pi.
Try that one.
In fact I've seen Artworks behaving weird on a the beta-versions but running very well on the official port.
In fact I think RISC OS is the best running OS on the RPI. It's fast, smooth and is compatible with a lot of (32-bits) stuff. Just compare Netsurf on RISC OS (very usable) with NetSurf on the preferred Raspian. Netsurf on raspian sucks big time.
On another note. Has anyone talked to Nokia? The Nokia 701 (and 808 Pureview for that matter) use the same CPU and Viceocore 4 GPU (albeit on higher clockspeed). Perhaps they're willing to contribute Symbian to the Pi community. It's as fast as RISC OS and is a pre-emptive multitasking OS (and it uses the Videocore to the fullest as it's GFX hardware accelerated)

I tried Arc Elite without success, but it might run under ArcEm

epdm2be: Have you tried Star Fighter 3000 and Twin World fullscreen? It has a LOT of tearing and flickering in both games.

Oh well - at least Chuckie Egg works. Here's an article about the history of the games development: http://www.bagshot-row.org/chuckie-egg/history.html

If you hold down shift and click on the !Lander folder. Then double click Slowvid. This should slow it down enough to be playable.
