Using U-Boot to boot Debian possible?

Has anyone tried to install only U-Boot to a SD card and then use it to boot a Debian on a (much faster) USB stick? Does it work?

I know some people have been experimenting with U-boot on the Pi, I dunno how much success they have been having.
Note that you can have the root filesystem on a USB device fine without U-boot, it's only the firmware and kernel that needs to be on the SD card.

Ah ok, thanks. Is there a howto for putting Wheezy to a USB stick on the Raspberry Pi?
