Accelerated X server?
9 posts
I tested the latest public beta from Wheezy (2012-06-18-wheezy-beta.zip). As I noticed, there is only the framebuffer device active under lxde. Is there a way to have X and video acceleration with this beta?

No distro has hardware accelerated X as of yet, there is still a lot of work to do before we can enjoy hardware accelerated x-windows.

Hi,
Do you happen to have the relevant forum posts for the ongoing work bookmarked? It seems the search engine for the forum complains that there are two many hits or I just can't find the relevant links.
Thanks and best regards, Will

Search for username 'teh_orph', he seems to be working on that X driver:

Thanks for your answers. I really couldn't find anything useful before, 'blob' or 'accelerated x server' didn't get me what I wanted to know.
But if such a X server isn't yet available, how can raspbmc use video acceleration? Or aren't they using X as the base of their system?

XBMC using GLES directly for the UI,and OpenMax for the Video. X is not used.

Ok, thanks. So if X (or posibly Wayland?) could use an OpenGL backend, they would gain more performance, wouldn't they? Maybe there is someone working on it?

See the post above - the links there point to work being done on an OpenGLES X driver.
