Can anybody recommend a USB-soundcard with SPIF?
I am looking for a card that is not more expensive than the Raspberry Pi itself.

In this topic viewtopic.php?p=110267#p110267 the Turtle Beach USB Audio Advantage Micro is reported to work.
Any body have any other suggestions?

afaik cm-106 based usb sound cards were reported to work fine, like the one below
although i am not sure, but i remember reading that before
you can find them for about 10 dollars on ebay

I bought a USB sound card with spdif in/out as well as the standard analogue connections. It uses the CM106 chipset and works great running Archlinux ARM. The best part is I bought it off Ebay for under $15 including shipping.
