That link is very very out of date. If I remember correctly you needed some very specific display timings to make it work correctly, and there were many reports of this method being incompatible with all but a few (long out of date) ATI graphics cards. Even if it was a compatible graphics card, you needed to configure specific timings in software.
In any case, this method is overkill for the RasPi. Any old LCD that accepts a composite input will work, and you'll find far more of those than you will find small LCDs that you can mod to work with VGA/DVI.
Hope I don't sound like I'm out to rain on your parade. I'm long-term bit-tech reader/user and re-using LCDs (especially laptop LCDs) as a secondary/alternative display has become a bit of a bit-tech forum meme ;).
