26W Connector Socket for Expansion Header

I've been using a 3M 4526-8500 from RS/Farnell but they are quite expensive. Can anyone recommend a 26W connector socket for the expansion header, ideally one that has a profile/height of > 10mm.

I'm trying to avoid mechanically interfering with the USB connector (H=15mm) and RJ45 connector (H=13mm) with my add-on boards so need the connector stack height.

I could cut slots in to the PCB's but that wastes PCB area so I'm trying to avoid doing that as well

The default headers get you to 13 mm above the PCB (without the strain release)

Sorry typo, should be 8526-4500PL (RS 499-9702), yes there are PCB mounting sockets and not IDC Sockets for Ribbon Cable.

I'm using the PCB socket on a add-on PCB to give me clearance over the over connectors on the Raspberry Pi

Not that it will help you at the moment but we are currently having some PCB mounted 26-way female headers produced that are 11mm high to clear the composite and ethernet sockets, but not the USB. Our idea is that if a PCB the same size as the Pi board has a notch cut out where the USB is that will help secure the board in place.

Using the 3M Connector sockets gives me a height of ~13.5mm so I've already done like you say and put a notch/slot in the PCB to avoid fouling the USB connector (h=15.4mm), you can see the result in the board shown below.

I tried the elevated sockets from Samtec but there are more expensive than the 3M connectors and I'm having trouble finding cheaper alternatives

The cheaper ones tend to be 8.5mm tall, so it looks like the 3M ones you have are the best option at the moment, unless anyone knows of any other tall connectors.

Yes, I've got some 20W 8.5mm tall connectors but I've not been able to find any 26W connectors. Any suggestions where I'll get them from ? UK preferable or anywhere for that matter
