I'm having major issues with those usb hubs though, if anyone has any suggestions before I buy some more hubs to try?

Have a nose through here its a list of known working ones usually its down to the controller chips from what i can see

I used a simple 4 way one from tesco, the pi reads the extra ports on boot and I have had no problems, I think it set me back about £3.50
Second and final part done. I was lucky the second time with a new hub
