Meego Mer on Raspberry Pi

Meego on Raspberry Pi was announced on 24th September 2011. The main thread is http://www.raspberrypi.org/for.....#038;t=592

Here is an excerpt from the Raspberry Pi Wiki:
The MeeGo project provides a Linux-based, open source software platform for the next generation of computing devices. The MeeGo software platform is designed to give developers the broadest range of device segments to target for their applications, including netbooks, handheld computing and communications devices, in-vehicle infotainment devices, smart TVs, tablets and more – all using a uniform set of APIs based on Qt. XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media. Meego TV 1.2 uses XBMC as a reference GUI (that is, a starting point for creating a custom GUI).

I think that meego is the ultimate solution for general use of the raspberry pi, it can be lightweight and simple enough to do basic work like surfing, video, office work etc...

Let's see what comes next, but until then i'm very excited about it!

Our buddy Vgrade has just posted a video of a little distro he hacked together under Mer with a desktop, xterm, Qt-demos and Qt-creator. It's very cute - check it out!

Is anyone able to maybe do some instructions on how you could boot this under QEMU on Debian or Fedora? I've started dabbling but not far enough to do this.

Since most of us aren't fortunate enough to have an Alpha board.

Would love to try this with QEMU is there is a pre-built image or at least a way to use the:
meego-mer-QtDesktop-armv6hl-Pi-1.2.90.20111116.1650-mmcblk0p.raw vgrade has made.

I've tried but I really don't know enough to do it.

MeeGo is unlikely to make it, but Mer is supporting ARMv6 and that's actively being supported for the Raspberry Pi. From my own personal side I've been improving the toolchain for ARMv6 and driving footprint down to fit better in the Pi.

With the advent on QtOnPi there's also a lot of common areas to work on and the focus of Mer on Pi is likely to be Qt5-centered as well. The idea is to have Mer be a base for prototypes that want to grow out of QtOnPi onto being real products, or on to other types of devices, through the portability of Qt.

Mer seems to be gathering a little steam.  The Spark tablet project is also planned to use it.

An ARM based distro that runs on multiple small devices is could build quite a bit of momentum.  I am planning to get a Spark for a different but complementary project to my raspberry pi plans.   My N900 is waiting on a Mer install too.

We are working on getting the Scratchbox2 SDK up and running and this along with the hardware adaptation packages will provide a base for developers to build on to for great Qt/QML products based on RaspberryPi.
