For those of you who are still unable to get hold of a Raspberry Pi - you are not alone. I've written three magazines about it, and I don't even have one yet. However at least 3 of our team members now have them, which is great. I did toy with the idea of getting one from Ebay.

I have 2. You can have my spare one (it's still in the box, unopened). I've emailed you.

Hi Steve,

It would be handy to give us the links through the email address rather than posting them here - The reason is, we create goo.gl short URL's so that we can measure the amount of clicks - It gives us at least a rough idea of how many people are viewing the magazine.

I can see that draft issue 3 is coming on nicely. Seems like I've been missing out on all the fun. I did notice my mirror died, seems like downloads have been hammered. Issuu.com link at the top next time I guess, see how they cope instead!

Are the forums for the MagPi still available, or have they gone since the site changed?

The MagPi forums all got moved under the category of Magazines and Books. I think the original thread is in here, if you wish to refer back to it.

Having said that.... I can't find it! Its probably in here somewhere though. I'll let you know if I discover where it went.

Thanks to Antiloquax for sending me an R'pi - Without it I would not have been able to write pages 3-5 for Issue 3 of the magazine. I think a lot of people will find this information useful. Although you can get at all the information elsewhere, you couldn't get all of it together in one place.

I must remember to add an instruction for installing GIMP - very simple:
sudo apt-get install gimp

No, I meant the actual MagPi magazine website (www.themagpi.com) used to have a forum. Is that still there?

I had a look at the SD card you sent. It appears to be Puppy Linux, not Arch. The screen resolution was VERY low, which made it quite hard to use - Interesting though!

As it happens the old MagPi website is still live - including the forum. It looks like it hasnt been used for the last month. You can access it from here:

I must admit, I've never looked at or used that forum. If you found it useful, I suppose there is no harm in continuing to use it. I shall mention it to Ash. If we are going to keep it, we can add a link to it from the new website.

We are probably better off using the threads here since the authors of articles are more likely to pick up any problems people may have. Also the admins keep everything tidy here, if the forum on there did grow then we'd need our own admins and servers etc, which isn't really the focus of producing a magazine.

It may be worth opening up a thread for each release of the magazine, so that issue specific discussions can be followed by readers as and when they visit each one.

Yes - it is Arch, but I put a Puppy Logo on the desktop. Some of the programs I've installed are Puppy favourites (eg mtpaint). It's not Puppy yet, but I am part of the team trying to get Puppy on Pi!

The resolution thing is an interesting point - I had set the config.txt to a 720p setting, because that was what I needed for the display I use, you could change that. I wonder if I have done something else to make it less than optimal

The window manager I on there is twm - it's the default wm from xorg. I was using it mainly because I wanted something that would be light and (hopefully) fast.

Anyway, I'm glad the card arrived and worked!

Not particularly, it just struck me as curious as to where it went, but I imagine this is a lot more active than it ever was. There are however two threads for it here, which gets a bit confusing, I'd recommend asking one of them to be closed (this one seems more active).

It certainly wasnt 720p on my screen - It looked more like 320pixels wide. The mouse pointer used up about a quarter of the screen. Not sure what happened there. Do you want me to send that card back to you?

That's odd, it certainly wasn't doing that previously!

There's no need to send the card back! Just use it as a spare, unless you can work out what is up with it.

My lovegui.py program was a Python 2 version.
For Python three "Tkinter" becomes "tkinter".
