Okay so I’ve read plenty about the Raspberry Pi’s capability as a media centre but I have had the idea of creating a portable media Raspberry Pi media centre. Basically one that I can take away with me on holidays so that I can plug into any TV and/or stereo system (you know the little pitiful-portable-picnic-players you get in hotel rooms) and have my entire CD collection and possibly a few movies and TV eps. Additionally I would like to be able to access YouTube.
So the rough idea (this project is still conceptual) is that the Pi accesses a small self powered external hard drive and both are powered by a small but capable powered USB hub. The Pi will be running Openelec and will have internet connectivity via my Samsung SIII (using portable hotspot) which will also serve as a remote control for Openelc.
I’m really just posting this for thoughts, comments and to see if anyone has already done this or something similar? Let me know guys.
Portable Media Centre

Sounds like it should be no problem to do just that. OpenElec works great for playing music/movies and accessing youtube.
