Cheers ddg.
I'm not sure I want to install the LMS on my rpi because I already have LMS running on my NAS (which is where my media is stored). Do I need LMS installed to make squeezeslave work? I'd assumed I could just run the rpi as a slave where the server is on the same box as my media...

I just did this after a reimage (giving up on airfoil for now): use setup to remove the reinstall squeezeslave if it doesn't show up in you NAS LMS web interface. The go to your NAS LMS first to configure your squeezeslave from the LMS web interface.

Hi ddg,
SqueezeSlave can run in two differnet options: SSoSBS "Install SqueezeSlave on the same device as SBS" SSosD "Install SqueezeSlave on a separate device" . Both options "normally" run very well. There is absolutely no need to run both Server and Player on the same device. Did you choose the SSosD option? If yes, we should investigate this. Are you available on Skype?

I got my wifi up, and plugged it into the USB port of an solar speakers I got as a gift. It boots and is powers the pi. I can listen to tunes with it around my whole yard. Pandora, Mog, Slacker all work. My Music works. Internet radio is playing back too fast. There are pops at change of songs(minor), I need to check my settings on my LMS server.
Wifi usb doggle is a RT5370 and speakers are made by Eton.
Thanks Truehl.

Are you trying to use the analog or HDMI? HDMI worked no issues.
For analog
I used Paul Webster's comment
/etc/rc2.d/S01squeezeslave stop
And did this:
http://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2012/0 ... ound-test/
Shutdown unplug HDMI restart
The analog audio is only good for areas with high noise floor. I.e outside. The interference from the pi's circuit board on the analog port is pretty bad otherwise. I may be off the mark that the board causes the problem; it may be my wifi doggle. I haven't checked.

I'm trying to use the analogue output. No HDMI connected.
I've had decent sound out of it using despotify on raspbian. Nothing from squeezeplug though. I tried stopping the squeezeslave service and modprobing but I'm not sure I tried those specific set of instructions. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Squeezeplug is working great for me except I can't use Spotify. There is a 3rd party Spotify plugin that should work with squeezeslave but it doesn't work on the Raspberry.
The selftest says "Player did not connect to helper app - check your firewall allows the helper app to receive incoming connections from players on the helper app port defined above" - the port is 9005 - is it possible the port is blocked?
Do you have any idea on how to get this running? Without the spotify plugin it's not really that useful to me.

I have been tinkering with this for the past day or so. I have a few questions for anybody who can answer them, they might be "noobish" and I do apologize if they are so bare with me.
1.Is it possible to launch a GUI with this? is a GUI even installed? if not can I install one and how would one go about doing that? (I would like to have the option if I wanted it)
2. Is there anyway to link my Samba folder on a webpage? e.g. I would like to have the folder linked on a web page for easy access from within my network. I guess I just dont know how to open a windows explorer window from html. my shared folder is \\Raspberrypi
3. Can it make me coffee and fix me breakfast in the morning?

May I ask what are you planning to use GUI for? There may be another way to easily do what you need. If you are using Logitech Media Server then there already is a web based gui at port 9000.
Instead of using http, I'd map my smb as a network drive.

To update an earlier post: My analog actually works very well. I was getting noise from the battery source of the Eton not the usb wifi or the RPI itself.

I just wanted the option to load up a desktop environment.
I currently host the website on the Pi, is there a way to FTP from a web browser to the Pi? Ive seen the SFTP through SSH but I would like to be able to upload files to the Pi from a different PC outside of my network.

It looks like you could I have never tried. I don't know the implications of doing so. Being it was designed by it's developer, Truehl, to be headless. I'd hold out until you see something from him.
But this is what I found: http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Debian
I am guessing outside your network might mean at work; where you can't install anything. Try a portable sftp app like http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/f ... a_portable you can carry it on a usb drive with saved settings. Or Firefox has these extensions https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/167/

If you try to start SqueezeSlave while it's already running, because you have installed it by my script, you will get this error message. Stop the SqueezeSlave process and try again. Then you won't get this error message.
Meanwhile we solved filou's problem. SqueezeSlave is running now. The problem was that SqueezeSlave could not communicate with the LMS running on a NAS, because of a local firewall rule.

I fear I don't understand this question. What GUI, what for? Some of the possible media servers have a GUI, others not, and they don't need one. SqueezePlug has no GUI and it don't need one. You can configure the complete system by GUI like dialogs.

That's not integrated but maybe possible. You can easiely access the device from outside with dyndns and e.g. WinSCP.

As truehl says, my problem was caused by my not checking whether the rpi could communicate with the LMS. I set up the LMS through the package manager on my NAS (I have a Synology NAS where everything is controlled though webmin) and I suppose I assumed that the package manager would take care of the firewall rules but this was not the case. If squeezeplug is not behaving as you expect, it's definitely worth pinging the LMS to double check that you can connect to it in the first place. However, this only applies if the LMS is on a different machine to the slave.
Many thanks to truehl who not only makes this wonderful package, but also helped me troubleshoot my noob setup.

Question, when I connect my external 2.5 HDD fdisk -l shows it as dev/sda but I cannot get the library configuration to recognize it as a usb device, it keeps using a partition on the SD card as the library. What am I doing wrong?
EDIT: I fixed it by setting the drive up with Fdisk util.
I have the HDD being powered by a Belkin USB hub on its own power.

Hi, I'm trying to set things up to have my RPi be a wireless squeezeslave (with the squeezeserver installed on a separate NAS device).
I ran the setup and have squeezeslave installed fine, and I also installed the drivers (zd1211) for my wifi dongle. All seems to be working fine when I'm connected by an ethernet cable, but not when I'm using wifi. I can stream maybe one track, or a part of a track, by wifi before the streaming stops. After this, the squeezeslave is no longer visible to the squeezeserver, but the wifi connection is still up (I can ping between the server and slave devices).
Can anyone please offer any suggestions how I could fix this?
Thanks (especially to truehl for putting this together),
S

Sorry, I've not tested SqueezeSlave over WiFi on RPi. Meantime I'm creating a new image with Raspbian and a new complied version of SqueezeSlave. We should have a look here, when it's ready. But sorry it will last some days to finish the new image, so please be a bit patient!

Thanks for the reply. Can you point me towards anything I could look into? e.g. is there a squeezeslave diagnostics/log?

I've received my RSB 2 days ago and the setup of Squeezeplug was easy and with no problem.
I've already LMS running on a PC in my home network so I've installed only Squeezeslave.
It run well playing the music stored in my PC, but streaming internet radio I experience strange behavior:
with some stations it works fine
with some stations the music is running fast like playing a 33rpm vinyl disk at 78rpm
with some stations the music has interruptions every 2 seconds
I've other Logitech devices in the network and they work fine.
Someone has idea of a solution?
thanks

I am having the same streaming speed issue. I tried adding the custom-convert.conf as in the squeezebox forums. No luck. Any advice is appreciated.
